Time for a forum: if you could choose your own first name at birth, what would it have been? Or would you stick with the name your parents chose for you? They used to give three names at birth in Belgium. Is that the same in your country? Do they still do that? I only chose one name for my children. I look forward to your answers.

During our holiday this summer we asked the question to our two daughters: what name would you have preferred at birth and would this make you any different in terms of appearance and behaviour. After a brief moment of reflection on this odd and rather unexpected question the answer was “Tinkerbell” by our youngest one of 4 years old. In her mind this is a package deal: adopting a different name means the acquisition of a whole new - and in this case: magical - life.

@Savi2024 tinkerbell is a really good name 🥰so shec can spread love all over the world thanks for your answer

In Indonesia, native people (who pure indonesia) only have one type of name, unless they are of mixed Chinese and Christian descent, usually they have 3 names, a Chinese name, a baptismal name and an Indonesian name. (note, not all mixed chinese in here has chinese name)

in my family, we only have one name. it's from our parent. If i can choose my name, i would choose 'Bella' or 'Annaliese' But I myself don't hate my name, because my real name means Virtuous and Beauty Queen

@mayuuram In the past, it was common to name children after relatives, especially in the Catholic tradition, where baptismal names offered additional protection from saints.

Middle names can refer to previous generations, help distinguish relatives with the same first and last name, or reveal hidden branches in the family tree.

niceee In Indonesia, usually to find out someone's ancestry, you can look at whether they have a title or not (like Raden, which is usually given to nobel descendants of the java sultanate) or like in Bali, In Bali, the people practice caste (the highest Brahmana, like ida ayu, ida bagus and then Ksatria, like anak agung, ayu desak etc; Waisya like sang, si, etc and Sudra like Made, Ketut, Nyoman and Wayan) and to find out, you can look at the title at the beginning of their name.

because Indonesia itself was formerly a kingdom (called the archipelago), but for one or two reasons, including colonialism, it changed into a republic. and Indo people who are descendants of nobility, still have titles, but people who were previously descendants of commoners, they do not have titles, or only have clan name to indicate which family they comes from

Wow, it's interesting to have three names. At least you can choose the one you like best, I guess. I don't like my name either; there are too many people with the same name. It's very common. If I could choose, I'd want a less common name, not strange... but rarely used.

"Annaliese" is a really beautiful name! You know what? "Bella" in my language means beauty 🤔

She does occasionally behave as an inhabitant of Never Land where Tinkerbell and all other fairies are said to live. On other moments her behaviour is more reminiscent of Godzilla’s rampage through town.

my 3 acual names are Mare Omar Dominique Aidan. Im fine with Mare, but i once had a name i preffered, but i dont remember it anymore.

I own only one first name and that is given by my mother, and last name is the family name. As middle name, mostly everybody writes father/husband's name and in very rare case some writes mother's name. But for me I don't choose to write middle name. I only use first name and last name.

I agree, they're very elegant! I think I'd like Simone... or a name taken from a literary work... a name with a story. Ofelia, for example, is beautiful, but I find it difficult to wear. I also thought you liked Twilight before XD sorry
