I agree with you. A lot of people died for no specific reason during the French Revolution. I mean, I’m glad that we have more freedom and rights than under the Monarchy, but the royal family and a lot of people were really mistreated.

Our teacher said that you can just say that someone was against the revolution and they would just get that person and put him in the guillotine without any way that he can fight against that. That is really bad because it has nothing to do about crimes, but you can just say that someone said something and that is enough. And I am against the guillotine. 🙄🙄

2️⃣ Like @Esma-Nur already said above today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This was because of a protest at the Trocadéro in Paris where on 17 October 1987 people demonstrated that extreme poverty is against the human rights. I looked that up and here you can read about that news: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/poverty-eradication I saw online that the Trocadéro is a square, but maybe @Etienne, @Lianshen and @Sabri_KC know why they chose that square for the protesting?

Often times I go to the Trocadéro square 😀 There’s a gorgeous and lovely view of the Eiffel Tower and other surrounding buildings ! The protests are quite rare, but it’s quite an emblematic square since the Eiffel Tower is right in front of it, so it’s a symbolic place where people want to protest.

Yes exactly. That’s why the period after the French Revolution is often referred as "La grande terreur" (the great terror). First period in 1792, and second period in 1793-1794, during those two periods, every person that was supporting the monarchy, or only suspected to, was/could be executed. Robespierre is a politician who took part in the revolution, but he also contributed to that period, so bad that he ended up being executed as well…..

Robespierre was a criminal

Robespierre was a criminal
I don’t like him neither. I don’t understand why his name was given to some streets or bus stops. @Lianshen do you know more about this or can you correct me about some mistakes I would have said about Robespierre ?

In Amsterdam it is De Dam square where you can protest. And of course in The Hague there are places and other cities.

I know that he was also put under the guillotine because people hated him right that he executed so many people and everybody was only afraid and angry at him. So it is strange that they name streets of him. I dont understand that.

There’s also something sad that happened today on 17th October 1961 : There was a massacre of Algerians during the Algerian war, and some Algerians who were peacefully protesting in Paris, and the police brutally repressed the protest, throwing some protesters in the Seine River.

Sorry for this bad news but this really is a duty of remembrance for everyone and for me as a French/Algerian.

Once someone has been beatified, that person may be officially and publicly venerated in a certain part of the Church. During canonization, the cult of a saint is extended to the level of the entire Church.
