Today is 24 November and this happened on this date in the past:
️⃣ On this day in 1700, Louis XIV of France proclaimed his grandson Philip to be king of Spain, beginning the War of the Spanish Succession.
️⃣ Charles Darwin's book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection was published on 24 November 1859. I think that this news is maybe interesting for @Lianshen because he knows a lot about this topic. And I think @Simone724 too!!
️⃣ Shortly before her death, Anna Sewell published her only novel Black Beauty on 24 November 1877. It was the first major animal story in children's literature.
️⃣ Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby fatally shot Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. This happened on 24 November 1963.
️⃣ A man later known as D.B. Cooper hijacked a plane shortly after departing from Portland, Oregon, and later parachuted out of the aircraft with the ransom money; despite an extensive manhunt, he was never identified or caught. Maybe this is nice news for @Roseeeee and @Esma-Nur because it is about real crime stories.
️⃣ On this date in 2001, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey ratified changes to the country's legal code that made women equal to men before the law and no longer subject to their husbands. This is maybe nice news to know for @diogenes_cask and @Esma-Nur and anybody from Turkey!
️⃣ Today is the day of the Dutch discovery of Tasmania. Dutch navigator Abel Janszoon Tasman, who sailed from Batavia (Jakarta) to investigate the practicality of a sea passage eastward to Chile and to explore New Guinea, skirted the southern shores of Tasmania this day in 1642.
️⃣ These people were born on this day: president of United States Zachary Taylor (1784), French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864), American editor William F. Buckley, Jr. (1925), American serial killer Ted Bundy (1946) and American actress Katherine Heigl (1978).
