Many people think that living in europe has more advantages. Is that true? Are the costs high? What about taxes? Weather? Hospital? Work? Let me know how it is in your country?forum: @Pennarossa2024, , @NILU1234, @Etienne, @Simone724, @mayuuram, @psysarah15, @Esma-Nur, @Annika2007, @Emmiiii_17_11, @Miss_Penpal, @Sabri_KC, @elizabethtay836, @martutuni, @Idkbro, @-Kiki-, @Txya, @Lianshen, @Ursul_Romanesc @Esma-Nur @Yue @TierM38

Europe or EU? Its similar but different. Europe as a whole and compared to most of regions in the world, yes, totally, especially Western and Northern Europe, a little bit less for South and East. We have good welfare, have decent healthcare, good access to education, including among the top universities in the world, relatively nice places to live in, be it from cultural perspective, or climate, pollution etc.

Work is probably a little bit nicer too. In France at least, and despite the recent destruction, we have workers rights more than in many other places. Taxes are high and life is expensive , but we also have higher salaries and, like I said before, higher standards of life. Food quality typically is incomparable in France with, let's say, Latin America; same for health access or education. On my part, I was able to go back from far to my studies and got supported by Brittany and the French state; I doubt many people in other countries can do that at all, and I think we are very priviledged for that.

That being said, in some countries like France, you don't really have the right to be proud of being French or of your flag without being labelled as "bad". I honestly saw that only in France and seemingly in Germany; whereas everywhere else, flags and identity was everywhere.

Specifically for EU, we get more advantages, yes, but due to our capital rather than being member of EU. Germany probably got more advantages and still slightly do, but France, Italy, Spain, Portugal or Greece to cite only these countries? Damn, I think we should look at some graphe with euro currency, commercial balance etc., to see that EU is bloodsucking them to the benefit of Germany, mostly.

Aditionnally, when it comes to work, cost of life, taxes... EU makes everything worse. Working longer, until 64, 67, maybe 70? EU pushing France to pass the law to get back some of the money France paid to EU (isn't that a joke to be blackmailed to get back your own money?). Electricity costing an arm when you don't depend on gas in France? EU (and Germany) again! Destruction of public services like EDF-GDF and SNCF? EU and its holy "competiton" of course, feeding parasite companies. Taxes getting crazy? Well, EU since you need to pay more for electricity and France is "covering for that"; + crazy printing + throwing away hundred of billions euros to other countries, while not protecting our own economies.

So, while we have many advantages in EU, I'd say that they are mainly because of being European countries with huge capital to start with, because EU is pretty much destroying everything we have. However, when Europeans are complaining for feeling pain, it doesn't make it less important than anywhere else. It can be very painful to see your place getting destroyed by people who hate your nation, and that, I think, is also something some European countries experience more than other countries.

Thank you so much to respond @Lianshen yes efen in belgium everything is expensive but like you sayed school and welcare are good here. But in bekgium internet is soo expensive we pay 150euro every munth

People in France should better care for necessary changes regarding retirement age, taxes and so on.

In Germany we had those unpopulor changes in early 2000s while in France people go on strike for months with every little change! Do you think in France the state is a welfare? Especially in southern states people and governments act like "Why should I care for financial politics, I want what I want"

Look at greece right now - without Germanys pressure they would have been bankrupt twice already.

And France has now the chance to show what they are able to do together with UK, but Im pretty sure in a half year they will scream for Germany need to help.

Btw.: Germany is the biggest payer in the EU. So If Germanys economy is ill other states will realize it soon.

So get your ass up in France and complain much less!

Depends on the country. But, in general, i think Europe is probably one of the worst places to live, nowadays.
I have travelled quite extensively for both work and leisure (also studied and lived abroad for some time). Travelling is an addiction which I share with my wife and two children. Despite all the magnificent foreign adventures and our gratitude for the hospitality as extended by host countries, we consider ourselves fortunate to call The Netherlands as our home soil.

This rule is somehow nonsense that I cannot answer twice to different topics in a thread.

What do you mean? You can't post 2 messages in a row in the same thread no, you should edit your last message instead (unless somebody has participated in the mean time).

@Fleurke: as for your initial question, I pretty much agree with everything @Lianshen said so I won't rephrase 😛

I'll only comment about the weather: France (except Nice) is one of the cloudiest places on Earth, and it truly has this long term depressing effect. I think the UK or Belgium suffer from it too, and probably other places as well. Only when you get to spend extended time abroad do you realize how little sun we really get 🙁

When you praise democracy, then you should respect a nation's decision, like not forcing them to get later retirement (especially when EU was blackmailing the French government to push even more in order to get back French taxpayer money), and this, no matter how bad the decision supopsedly is. Unless democracy works in a very specific way in you mind and that it works without citizen consent? I say that, btu French Republic is representative and thus not a democracy to start with, which is ironic when so many people are in favour of the holy democracy.

Early retirement also has a bunch of benefits, or later retirement comes with its cons. I know that I am very socialist and what I say might trigger the liberal ears of europeists, but when you have 20% of unemployment (2022), especially among youth, then early retirement can be beneficial to your economy, whereas forcing older people in a country in which life expectancy is now decreasing can pressure a little bit less the healthcare system. Not to say that elderies who retires are not necessarily inactive. I found many doing associative activities, or growing food, making a small business just to spend their time. It's not only "I want, I want", it's just that everyone doesn't have to lissten to you dogma, because the same dogmas promotes forms of slavery.

Please, avoid talking about the role of Germany in Greece. Greece had so many problems because of the example Germany and France sets, making seemingly magical money. Furthermore, the refusal of EU ((Germany)) threw Greece to China. China know owns the biggest harbour of Greece and a mean of pressure in EU, making itself immune to most of sanctions EU could ever take against their country since we need to agree together, and Greece would not. WWell done Germany and EU; Greece didn't go bankrupt, it became China!

@Lianshen you know alot of all that 👌

This is a nice question @Fleurke!! I get asked that question often bc my parents are from China and people ask for example if i prefer to live in China or The Netherlands. And for me it is my home country because i was born here and everything of my life is HERE except for some of my family which is of course also very important. And even if i want to see them as often as I can because they are still alive, i believe that i am Dutch and European the most. And i like my country a lot so i am happy to live here!!!! 🥰🥰🥰

We go sometimes to China but not often because it is also very expensive. Sometimes my dad goes without my mom and me.
