4️⃣ Is there a Christmas song in YOUR language that you think ppl dont know?

5️⃣ Did you believe in Santa Claus and if yes how did you find out abt that secret?

6️⃣ If you can celebrate Christmas in another country: which would you like the most?

7️⃣ Do you give Christmas cards to friends? And do you get them too?

8️⃣ Did you ever go to a Christmas market? Or perhaps smt else like Christmas ice skating?

9️⃣ What is the biggest Christmas tree that you ever saw and where was that?

🔟 What do you think is a nice activity if you have Christmas vacation for TWO weeks in your country?

➡️ What other question did i forget and should i put in the list?

➡️ New question of @shirazikira: Does Christmas feel more like a festival, a holiday, or a mood for you?

Thank you very much ANYBODY who answers the questions or post smt else that you want abt Christmas!!!!! 🙏🙏❤️⭐❄️🌸

1️⃣ What do you celebrate in December and how do you celebrate it?
In December, I mainly celebrate Christmas and New Year in a cultural way, not religiously. In Ahmedabad, some malls, cafés, and homes put up small Christmas trees, lights, and decorations, Few has Santa too. I don’t usually go to church, but I like the festive vibe—music, lights, and meeting friends.

2️⃣ What happens at your school or work?
At work or college, there’s usually no official Christmas dinner, but sometimes colleagues or friends plan a small get-together, cake cutting, or secret Santa if people are interested.

3️⃣ The nicest Christmas movie you know or would like to watch?
I really like “Home Alone” 😃 😃 it’s simple, funny, and nostalgic. I also enjoy “The Holiday” because it has warmth and emotion, not just comedy.

4️⃣ Is there a Christmas song in your language people don’t know?
In Gujarati or Hindi, there aren’t many traditional Christmas songs, but “Yeshu Tera Naam” or Indian church choir carols are beautiful and not well-known internationally.

5️⃣ Did you believe in Santa Claus?
Not really in a strong way. I knew about Santa mostly through movies, cartoons, and school stories, and I always understood it more as a fun concept than something real.

6️⃣ If you could celebrate Christmas in another country, which one?
I’d love to celebrate Christmas in Switzerland or Austria—snow, Christmas markets, lights, and a calm winter atmosphere feel very magical.

7️⃣ Do you give or receive Christmas cards?
Physical cards are rare now, but I do send and receive digital wishes and messages. Sometimes friends share handmade cards, which feels more special.

8️⃣ Have you ever been to a Christmas market or ice skating?
No real Christmas markets like in Europe. In Ahmedabad, sometimes malls create small Christmas setups. Ice skating exists in indoor arenas, but it’s not Christmas-themed.

9️⃣ Biggest Christmas tree you’ve ever seen?
The biggest one I’ve seen was in a large mall or hotel lobby, maybe around 20–25 feet, decorated with lights and ornaments.

🔟 Nice activity for a two-week Christmas vacation in your country?
A perfect plan would be traveling to a colder place like Himachal, Uttarakhand, or the North-East, relaxing, reading, spending time with friends, and doing a short year-end reflection.

➡️ What other question could be added?
👉 “Does Christmas feel more like a festival, a holiday, or a mood for you?”

I think that captures the emotional side of Christmas very well.

1. New Year only. Few people celebrate Catholic Christmas, most are Orthodox. And most use these holidays like day off, don't go to church, just eat near the Christmas tree.
2. Nothing 😭. Our college doesn't really care, but on my mom's work there's large party.

3. Mr. Grinch and Rise of the guardians. Also my fav TikTok couple recommended few, so ill watch them too.

4. No, not at all, but there's a legend, that the most popular Christmas carol's motive was stolen from our village by some ethnographer. It's your right to believe or not.

5. I believe in USSR DED MOROZ (Grandfather Frost). In fact he's not a good guy

6. VIENNA, HAVE YOU SEEN HOW BEAUTIFUL THUS CITY ON CHRISTMAS?

7. We give and get presents, cards only like an additional

8. Noo, I don't really like such activities

9. New York, it was alive and GIANT. It was beautiful, only with yellow lights and it was not vulgar, like other trees, it was cozy

10. Big tour, because our country isn't very popular. But Russians get stuck here for weeks because they lose all their money at casinos in one night and can't go home. My main wish is for those who go to casinos to be banned from entering the country; they have their own city, and for casinos to be made illegal.

haha thanks for including me in christmas forum, i feel welcome. Honestly, i don't celebrate Christmas, but i do feel happy and can feel the warm whenever i see everyone who celebrate it. when Christmas, (to be exact in december) every corner of the town full of Christmas decoration, songs, discount sale, seasonal menu, vibes and everything. Because in last week of december till januari (3) we have christmas and New year holiday. That's why in here, everyone feel so happy and always can't wait for christmas and new year hahaha

Thanksss very much everybody!!! ☺️☺️ I think it would be really special to celebrate Christmas in India or Indonesia bc it is super different from celebrating it in Europe i think!!! 😛 But i like what @mayuuram said bc it is like how you feel and has a vibe and vacation and family time. I think that is what @shirazikira meant that it is not only for religion but also for everybody that you feel maybe that way right!!!! 🥰🎅⭐❤️

And Stasyyy @PinkiePie i can remember that you said that you dont like winter sport but i dont know anymore which forum!!! 😛 😛 BUTTTTT i think it would be really nice for ice skating in open rink. I would really like it a LOTTT if maybe your friends group and from me would do that and maybe you change your mind that it is fun to do EVEN if you fall on your butt a lot but everybody does that. And you can get warm drinks and if it is in early evening it is nice if it is dark and MANYYYY christmas lights. I think maybe you would still like that!!! 😃 And if not than you can just get warm drink and maybe Dutch snack or talk a LOTTTTTTT!!!!! 🤪🤭😛

@mayuuram and @shirazikira can you do ice skating? 🙂 I am not very good at it but can stand but still fall a lot but it is still fun!! 😃

huhu i can't 🤣 but i really wanna try!

The same like what @mayuuram says 👌🙏🥰

huhu i can't 🤣 but i really wanna try!

Ok so i can teach you and Stasyyy @PinkiePie!!! 😛 😛 And i know @Fleurke can make oliebollen so after that we can try it!!! They are special snacks and we eat it normally for New Year. But they are HEAVYYYY to eat. So maybe AFTER ice skating!!!!! 🙃😝🤭

@mayuuram and @shirazikira can you do ice skating? 🙂 I am not very good at it but can stand but still fall a lot but it is still fun!! 😃

I can't do normal roller skating on road, ice skating is very far from my imagination.. 😃 😃 First I wanna try normal skating then I will try ice.. but I will do that for a sure.

1. I celebrete Nikolo on 5th December where i get a small present or, if i was not nice to my parents, get beaten up by the Krampus. Also, the Krampus run around everywhere in the first half of december and steal kids or hit people with sticks.

It’s a tradition to keep bad spirits away.

And I also celebrate Christmas with a big christmas dinner with all the family and the „Bescherung“ later at night where we open our presents. We also go to the church at night.

2. We give eachother small presents, sing christmas songs or watch a Christmas Movie

3. I like Scrooge

4. Es wird scho glei dumpa- a traditional song for the Advent

5. I do believe in Christmas Miracles

6. Hawaii

7. not really, I try every year

8. i love Christmas market i go there the whole december!!

9. In Innsbruck Christmas Market, never been outside Austria in December tbh

10. Skiing is the best

Our two daughters were in charge of decorating the Christmas tree this year. Enriched with a tsunami of colourful decorations it was nearly succumbing to the weight of the countless ornaments (including ones that were self made at school). It made the Tower of Pisa envious of its play with gravity.

3. Home alone, Christmas Chronicles 1 & 2, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas journey and Scrooge: A Christmas carol.

4. Tonttujen joulukiireet

6. 🇮🇸 because of hot springs and 🇸🇮 because of Planica

7. Of course I give cards and of course I get cards from loved ones

Thankssss everybody for writing above!!!! And sorry that i am super later for answering the questions too!!! 😛 😛 So there are my answers finally!! 😋😜🤪🤭🙃

1️⃣ What do you celebrate in December and how do you celebrate it? For example do you have a Christmas tree or do you go to a church or temple?

We celebrate Christmas in December and also Sinterklaas. And if you want to know abt Sinterklaas I write about that in the Dutch forum: https://penpal-gate.net/forum/12-everyday-life-and-customs/9772-the-dutch-forum/6 For Christmas we have a Christmas tree and my dad always puts a lot of christmas lights that you can also see outside and in the front of the house but others in our street also do that. And for Sinterklaas it is mostly with others in school where you get a secret lot with a name of smb in the class and you have to get a gift and make a mini poem and we celebrate it together. 🙂

My mom and I are also Buddhist (my dad not but my aunt is Buddhist too) but we dont really celebrate that the day that the Buddha became enlightened but we do more privately that you try to follow Buddhist teachings for living a good life but that is every day not only on like one special day.

2️⃣ What happens at your school or your work like a Christmas dinner?

Ok so in our school we celebrate with a Christmas dinner. That is really nice but also bit weird bc it is IN our school in a class room. But it is nice bc lights are out except Christmas lights everywhere and most of our class really try to dress up nicely for it or have a funny Christmas sweater or outfit. And we bring stuff from home that we prepared or bought to school. That is also what a LOTTT of other schools do even if you go to primary school but we also do that bc it is nice to do it like that on school and not so expensive in a restaurant!!!

And we can talk a LOTTT and it is fun. And sometimes there are jokes like somebody has a branch from Christmas tree and say it is miscletoe (sorry if i write it incorrectly) and they give you a kiss suddenly on your cheek or head. But NOTTT romantically but for fun like a friend does that to you and you are like omg WHATTTT???? And they do that just for fun as a joke. And after Christmas dinner we have on Friday final day and then the Christmas vacation of two weeks!!!!! 😃

3️⃣ What is the NICEST Christmas movie that you know or that you would like to watch?

For me and also my mom we like to watch the Christmas special of All you need is love!!!!! That is a Dutch tv show and they bring couples together like for example if your bf or gf lives far away then they secretly bring that person to you to celebrate Christmas!!!!! 😊🥰🥰🥰

4️⃣ Is there a Christmas song in YOUR language that you think ppl dont know?

Wahahahh ok sorry buttt i would say "Niets is cooler dan Kerstmis" and it is from Kinderen voor Kinderen and actually it is for SMALL children in primary school but we sing it sometimes for fun in our class but it is not seriously. You can see the clip on YouTube if you want it.

5️⃣ Did you believe in Santa Claus and if yes how did you find out abt that secret?

For me it was more abt Sinterklaas than Santa Claus. But my parents did not know really how it worked in Dutch tradition so they made some mistakes and i found out that they gave the gifts and not Sinterklaas. But i did not really believe in Santa Claus bc we just give gifts to each other.

6️⃣ If you can celebrate Christmas in another country: which would you like the most?

I would like to celebrate it in the country with the most snow at that time. I think that is maybe Finland? Or maybe Iceland???? Im not sure but in any case in that country and wear a winter outfit that you look like a walking penguin. 😛

7️⃣ Do you give Christmas cards to friends? And do you get them too?

Yes i give some but not many. But only to best friends that you give in person.

8️⃣ Did you ever go to a Christmas market? Or perhaps smt else like Christmas ice skating?

Not really to a Christmas market bc my dad will buy MORE lights and stuff like that. We dont really go to a Christmas market like you see on TV like in Germany. BUTTT we go sometimes to Intratuin which is a HUGE shop for plants and they have a big part with Christmas things in very nice way and you can buy a Christmas tree too that you can choose.

And sometimes when there is a place for Christmas ice skating i go with friends but my parents dont really like that so just when friends can also come. And i want to take Stasyyyy @PinkiePie and @mayuuram to teach them ice skating!!!!! 😛 😛

9️⃣ What is the biggest Christmas tree that you ever saw and where was that?

In Amsterdam there is normally a HUGE tree but we did not yet go to Amsterdam but in two days it is Christmas vacation and i think i will go there!!! 😛

🔟 What do you think is a nice activity if you have Christmas vacation for TWO weeks in your country?

Not getting up super early and also with friends going ice skating if that is possible. And just also with family during Christmas days. So for me not wintersport or very difficult things but just simple with family and friends!!!

➡️ New question of @shirazikira: Does Christmas feel more like a festival, a holiday, or a mood for you?

For me it is not religious but more that it is like tradition and that everybody comes together to celebrate. I did not even think of discounts and stuff like that that @mayuuram said 😛 😛 But in my country it can also be MORE expensive bc they first make stuff more expensive before they give discounts. And i like that it is outside cold but then you get for example inside and you can warm up!!! And the lights make it nicer when it is dark and that gives special feeling.

And for everybody: MERRY CHRISTMAS already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked this forum.. I am new here and I am answering all question...

1️⃣ What do you celebrate in December and how do you celebrate it?
In Mizoram, Christmas is the most important celebration in December. We celebrate it religiously and culturally. Homes are decorated with lights, stars, and sometimes Christmas trees. People attend church services, midnight prayers, and carol singing. Families gather, pray together, and share food.

2️⃣ What happens at your school or work?
Schools, colleges, and offices usually have a Christmas program—carol singing, short plays, prayers, and fellowship meals. Many institutions close for a few days, and the atmosphere is joyful and relaxed.

3️⃣ The nicest Christmas movie you know or would like to watch?
I enjoy “The Nativity Story” because it reflects the true meaning of Christmas. Popular movies like “Home Alone” and “The Passion of the Christ” are also commonly watched during the season.

4️⃣ Is there a Christmas song in your language people don’t know?
Yes. There are many beautiful Mizo Christmas hymns and carols like "Aw Lalpa Kan Fak Ang" and "Bethlehem Khua", which are very meaningful but not well known outside Mizoram.

5️⃣ Did you believe in Santa Claus?
As children, many of us knew about Santa Claus through stories and school plays, but we were taught early that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ, so Santa was more of a fun character than a real belief.

6️⃣ If you could celebrate Christmas in another country, which one?
I would love to celebrate Christmas in Israel (Bethlehem) for its spiritual significance, or in European countries like Germany or Switzerland for their Christmas markets and winter atmosphere.

7️⃣ Do you give and receive Christmas cards?
Yes. Exchanging Christmas cards, messages, and Bible verses is common. Even today, handwritten cards are still valued, along with digital greetings.

8️⃣ Have you ever been to a Christmas market or ice skating?
There are no European-style Christmas markets, but church fairs, charity stalls, and fellowship gatherings are common. Ice skating is rare, but cultural programs and musical evenings are very popular.

9️⃣ Biggest Christmas tree you’ve ever seen?
The biggest Christmas trees are usually set up at church compounds or public grounds, sometimes very tall and beautifully lit, becoming a focal point for the community.

🔟 Nice activity for a two-week Christmas vacation in your country?
Spending time with family, attending church programs, volunteering, practicing music, and visiting nearby villages is very meaningful. Many people also travel within Mizoram or to neighboring states.

➡️ New question of @shirazikira: Does Christmas feel more like a festival, a holiday, or a mood for you?

For me, Christmas feels more like a mood than just a festival or a holiday.

Of course, it is a religious festival, and the church services, prayers, and carols are very important. It’s also a holiday, because schools and offices close and families finally have time together.

But beyond that, Christmas is a feeling that slowly fills the whole month - the sound of choir practice in the evenings, homes glowing with lights, people speaking more gently, helping each other, forgiving old misunderstandings, and focusing on faith and gratitude. There’s a sense of peace, reflection, and togetherness that stays even after December 25th.

So for me, Christmas isn’t just something on the calendar—it’s a quiet, warm mood that settles into everyday life.

➡️ What other question did i forget and should i put in the list?

How does Christmas strengthen community and faith in you?
