Because they have the lands, the raw materials and the will to, whereas our countries have the "will" to, and are just doing shit. For instance, the will in France is to develope new technologies ), but one of the strongest point in France is agriculture for there are very rich lands, and "produits du terroirs".
So, in France, they want to build something from almost 0 because we're very late in this kind of industry (thanks to the geniuses leading us), and let die a bit more what is a strong part of our sovereignty and identity.
They may have lands, raw materials and... about will, I'm not sure. It's like You say in next sentence. Weren't they also doing the shit for all this time? Like the Union countries You mention? For me, the situations so extremal like war is stimulus for everything. It afffects the thinking even of people like our lovely EU bureaucrats. I don't know about situation in France.
And for sure Russian leaders doesn't seem like "Ha! We are ahead of others, in planning and taking action!", but rather like: "What the hell, why the Ukraine didn't collapsed in few days like we thought it supposed to happen? What? We don't have plan B?!"
And improvisation now.
For some reason, suddenly, the coal isn't as dirty as it was yet some time ago. Or it still is, but staying to "only green energy!" isn't so tempting and neccesary for them anymore. If it is, it is for countries like my own. Because of course, how Poland dare to use coal. We are not Germany or China. How we dare.
This, like changes in green policy of UE (at least some delay), and countries searching the pipes to build with gas from somewhere, are fact. Maybe in Your country it's somehow different because France don't feel as endangered? Maybe You have also more diversified energy sources than only Russia?
Sources of material as well for Europe. For France especially, we just came back to the idea that closing functionnal nuclear plants was retarded and that we should open new ones (holy fuck, it's not like were labeled as retards and conspirasionists for saying that Fessenheim was a very nice nuclear plant).
Also, haven't you seen the shortage in electronic components since the covid crisis? China is playing against us here. Russia still has China as potential ally to develope on the electronic and has more than a potential economic partner (as we excluded from the "world" China, Iran, Venezuela and messed in many other places). As for McDonald, is it a loss? I don't see it as more than soft power from the US, that gives diabetes to people, but here again, Russia showed that they can adapt. When France stopped export of cheese,c hampagne and French product of this kind, Russia started to develope their own and didn't give a shit anymore about protected labels, which has been more detrimental to France than to Russia since one became independent and the other lost a source of income...
I saw shortage of electronics, but I don't know what to think about it. First it's not my subject, and second, my... theory of amator, is that maybe armies are buying a lot of it from the world markets. And okay, its element of war for countries like China. MCdonald was just my joke, it's just kind of... yeah, what You said.
I will stop at assume, that Chinese-USA trade war is in process since very long, and for me it's hard to judge who is winning. I just can use what some expert said in some debate, unitil I don't grab some awesome data to get some knowledge out of it.
Well, China only has to avoid losing its industry, and Russia has to build it... Europe, on its part, lost the know-how by feeding a country like China for saving some costs. Yet, we would be in a not so bad position if it was only this, you also had to take in consideration that the US is also bloodsucking us from our talents and industries at the moment... So maybe Poland is in a better position to rebuild/keep its industry, but a country like France is kind of in a deep shit in my opinion.
For the China I have no doubt. They are doing it I think... rather competently. They are first league in fight for taking power of the world, and they seems to be aware of their weak sides, like still army not equal to US army, not best demography, etc.
Europe, even when we talk about UE, is still a group of different countries. And Germans for example, are going to pump a huge amount of money into their economy, what is in some way against UE regulations. Devil sits in details. I would call it one of these "boosters" by war.
But it's about Europe - Russia. What we had from Russia? Gas and coal? We have to find new sources, or imporve our own capabilities. If it would be medicaments, and now we wouldn't import them, we would be forced to find another importer or build our own factories of that product.
But for now we are still trading with China, so most of things we still get. Come on, Russia never was centrum of worlds production, right? Its mostly energy.
About pandemics - for our "managers" it was rather something they knew they can control. The war is out of their hands. So they were playing rather... how they wanted. With their actions they killed so many businesses... Ugh. Unforgivable. But the biggest corporations was safe even then. Maybe I'm wrong in the first sentence here, but I just have the feeling that... it wasnt serious even for them. They were taking masks off behind cameras, parting, and censoring, and repeating the most stupid phrases.
We have own problems, Russia have own problems, China isn't economic enemy in that moment for europe, but still attractive partner. But I think we have less negative factors affecting our economies, and it's mostly our own governors and UE policies. Russia is on the other side, the country engaging in the war with their all capabilities, their people, they have army to rebuild, they have corrupted officials too, and their actuall industry is behind the "west". And they have smaller market to work with, or at least more struggling to do it. Russian acting doesn't seems like fully awareness of situation for me, at least on military field. Or maybe backstage is trying to solve this problem, what woulnd't be so visible for us yet.
We will see who was right and where, with the time flow.
