πŸ‡³πŸ‡± The Dutch forum πŸ‡³πŸ‡±πŸ§‘ Everyday life and customs

Voor me: het is Piet Heyn, die 1628 die Spaanse zilvervloot veroverde! Het resultaat was, dat Curacao tot vandaag is een deel van Nederland...misschien de mooiste deel van Nederland πŸ™‚

I was going to say Niels Bohr but I just realized he's Danish 😭, by the way do Danish and Dutch share any similarities or are they entirely different languages?

Erasmus of Rotterdam of course! I read many books he wrote and i liked them pretty much! About the city, i would choose Amsterdam, so i'd be a tourist in that beautiful city 😁

Well they’re both under sea level so yeah I guess ? 😭

Nah they have a different language πŸ˜‰

Hello Dutch students! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

I will make another lesson this week, BUTTT first i have a job for you to do. πŸ˜›

Name to famous Dutch persons who are now alive or from the past who you think are great. And why do you think they are great? πŸ™„

And the second assignment: if you would live a year in The Netherlands, in which city or place would you like to live? 🏑🏚️🏠

First assignment

I chose to present Willem van Oranje. (1533-1584) He was the leader of the Dutch revolt against the Habsburg Monarchy, and is considered as the founder of today’s Netherlands, and the founder of the Orange Royal branch which is still in power in the Dutch monarchy today.
The National Anthem of the Netherlands was also composed after him ! There are various references about him in the anthem, but the most surprising fact is that the author chose to write the anthem in stanzas, and each stanza begin with a letter, and all the first letters of each stanza form his full name !

Second assignment

As someone who loooves geography, I’ve already thought about this question mutiple times ! πŸ˜„ And there are a few places that came to my mind
- Flevoland
The history of this region is fascinating. At first, it used to not exist. There were only islands. Then, the Zuiderzee works began, and the workers began building two major Islands, forming the region of Flevoland. It is the youngest province of the Netherlands and it was established in 1986. I just wonder how life is there, it just fascinates me !
- Utrecht
It seems like an amazing and pretty cool city πŸ™‚
- Amsterdam
For obvious reasons (activities such as cycling and visiting museums !)
- Lisse (Zuid Holland)
That might sound a bit stereotypical, but I’d like to experience going in a tulip field in the Netherlands and feel the fresh air and the calm, while contemplating the mills in the midst of the colorful tulip fields. Such a beautiful landscape πŸ™‚

Nah they have a different language πŸ˜‰

I know they do but I wonder to what extent they could possibly understand each other (kind of like French/Spanish or even French/Italian) πŸ˜ƒ

Wowww I am very impressed by the responses!!!

@Piwipete, @Simone724 and @Sabri_KC you know A LOTTTT that we get in school but you know it even though you are from other countries!! That is impressive!! But @Piwipete I think that Curacao is now not anymore from The Netherlands (you write very good in Dutch by the way!! πŸ˜› ) but I think Aruba is still from our country.

And I have not read anything from Erasmus yet @Simone724!! Very nice that you do that. Is that for your studies in the past maybe? And @Sabri_KC I did not even know that about the Wilhelmus anthem from our country about the stanzas!!

And @Etienne I think that Danish is VERY different from Dutch! πŸ˜› I cant understand anything except knackebrod if i write that correct. That is often a joke in my country if people speak in Scandanavian language! πŸ™‚ Can you understand Spanish from Mare and if @Pennarossa2024 or @Simone724 speak Italian to you? That would be very impressive I think!!

I expected Amsterdam that people would choose that to live. I would do that too or maybe Utrecht or Rotterdam. Flevoland is nice for the city Almere and also nature. You can see in the train sometimes deers in one part and there is a lot of green. And there is somewhere in Flevoland a plate next to the road and it says you are below sea level. So a lot of tourists go there and make a picture and look very cool like they are not afraid. But they are immediately in the car back to Amsterdam after they made the photo! πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

Can I ask about what topic would you like the next language lesson? I did greetings already so maybe travel or going out like the cinema or a restaurant or things if you meet people? πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡

Oh and I forgot to say: very nice @Simone724 that you now have a profile photo other than a monkey!! πŸ™‚ That is very cool!! 😊😊

Well I think there might be some videos about it πŸ˜ƒ A person in their YouTube videos bring someone that speaks a specific language and they compare together.
Also, here is a video that I just found ! There are a plenty more : https://youtu.be/GkNVUypbFPg

Ik ben graag in Maastricht! Amsterdam is voor me heel touristisch…Utrecht is ook mooiπŸ˜ƒ Groetjes

Travel and going out in cinema or restaurant is a super idea! But I think we have something to learn before. It might sound silly, but we don’t know the Alphabet in Dutch! πŸ˜… Like the names of the letters, or the pronounciation of other vowels like "oe", "ie" and how to pronounce them in Dutch.
For example I still don’t know if in Dutch, the "r" sounds like the Spanish one, or the French one, or the English one.
Same with the g, I don’t know if we say it "dj", "g" or "gh"
So a lesson about each letter of the alphabet would be beneficial for everyone, and then we can get started by something else πŸ˜‰

What do you think about this, Yue ? πŸ™‚

I think this is a good idea! πŸ™‚ so i will do the alfabet and help explain how you say the letters and also some combination of letters!! i can do that this week but probably thursday or friday πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‡

If there is important Dutch news I will share it here too so everybody who is member of the Dutch forum can read it.

Today and yesterday I saw in the news that Johan Neeskens died. I dont know him but it said he was a famous footbal player from The Netherlands. So maybe others here on PPG know this man so I wanted to share it with you. I know that @Piwipete likes footbal so perhaps that is important news for you? πŸ™

Have a nice evening everybody!!

πŸ‡³πŸ‡± In Dutch: fijne avond allemaal!!

Is hij dood😱is he dead

I can understand some Spanish since I studied it at school. Usually French and Italian speakers can understand each other if they speak slowly enough πŸ˜ƒ

Is hij dood😱is he dead
