🏙️ 1. Everyday Life Around the World

Example topics:

  • “What’s a normal breakfast in your country?”

Maybe Pancakes? My family eats a lot of breads and things. Me though I just loveeeee yogurt. I love it and I don't even like dairy

  • “How do people commute to work or school where you live?”

Public school kids either drive in cars or bus provided by the school. Private school kids only drive by car.

  • “Cultural habits that surprise foreigners”

Loud talking and little to no clothing. People are sometimes just rude.

  • “Do you greet people with hugs, handshakes, or something else?”

I just say high. No touching really. My dad does handshakes. If you know someone here then you can hug if you are close. Handshakes are for people you are just now meeting.

🎉 2. Traditions & Celebrations

Example topics:

  • “How do you celebrate New Year’s Eve?”

I don't really but most people stay up celebrate and eat fireworks

  • “Traditional weddings around the world”

white wedding dresses nothing really special. I don't want my wedding in North America lol

  • “Funniest or strangest local holiday you know”

St. Patrick's Day if you don't wear green they pinch you or something. I just don't understand 😭

  • “Food that’s always on the table at celebrations”

Chicken Like who doesn't eat chicken for celebrations? It's on most peoples plates I know.

🗣️ 3. Language & Communication

Example topics:

  • “Sayings or proverbs that don’t translate well”

Easy does it. It doesn't even make sense in English 🤣

  • “Body language that can get misunderstood”

Maybe head lifting as a greeting. People lift their heads to greet and sometimes it can make no sense if you are not used to it.

  • “Languages you’d love to learn”

Japanese, French, Chinese, Gulf Arabic - I already know some of all except Chinese 😁

Actually I want to learn every language. I love to talk to people 😆

  • “How texting culture differs between countries”

Lots of slang used in texting and if you are not used to it, It can look like an alien language 🤣

🎭 4. Modern Society & Issues

Example topics:

  • “Work-life balance: myth or reality?”

To make enough to pay your bills here, It is really hard unless you are making 1 million dollars a year! Things here are expensive! so that is why so many people become Influencers now

  • “How social media changed our communication”

Deep conversations are so harddd. Every one just says hi, wsp, wyd, and just little conversations. It's hard to get to know and hang with people. IDK XD

  • “Cultural differences in education or parenting”

We have to learn the same math, reading, science and social studies for 13 years and after is when we get to do something that goes with the profession we actually want

  • “Gender roles and expectations across cultures”

Everyone believes in 50/50 now. The girls have to work hard to get the guy now 😭. I'm leaving this country lol

🧠 5. Deep Conversations

Example topics:

  • “What defines a ‘good life’ in your culture?”

Rich, happy family

  • “Is happiness universal?”

Yes I think 😅

  • “How does your society view success?”

Through your income, and bank account 🥲

  • “Do traditions hold us back or help us grow?”

I think tradition help us grow. If you I had an expectation to live up to I feel like I would be different in a good way

    IN LOVE KITTENWHISKES ❤️💞

This so funnn thank you @Kittenwhiskes

This forum is really special how you made it!! 🏆🥇 Really nice @Kittenwhiskes and i hope a LOTTTT of ppl answer in it bc that way you can really read a lot about other places!!

These are now my answers BUTTT if anything is not really clear you can just ask it of course!! 🙂

🏙️ 1. Everyday Life Around the World

How does daily life look where you live?

“What’s a normal breakfast in your country?”

In my country everybody eats BREAD!!!!! For breakfast and lunch it is like everybody keeps eating it. I prefer food that we made the evening before (mostly Asian bc it is warm and healthy and less fatty). BUTTT the question was about my country so this is a nice video what ppl eat in The Netherlands (really DUTCH food) and i think it is very funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlaP-Kbkrps

“How do people commute to work or school where you live?”

Most people to school with a bike or some walking. But most with a bike and if it is raining super hard than maybe with a car if smb can bring you. Ppl are sometimes really surprised that we bike so much. So for example even our prime-minister used to bike to his work!!!! 😛 😛 And foreign ppl sometimes think that is super weird. But people also take the train or the car. And now in our school there also a lot of fatbikes but i really dont like those bc they almost hit you and drive really super fast!!!!

“Cultural habits that surprise foreigners”

Oww maybe here i should put the bike thing but i already said it above!! 😛 😛 And maybe also the FEBO so that is where you can get super fatty hot snacks with meat and you can get it from a wall like this:

And before anybody thinks it i DONT eat that of course!!! I dont want to become a super fat panda but others do bc they are hungry and it is not so expensive and they can snack that.

“Do you greet people with hugs, handshakes, or something else?”

Ok so in our school we just wave or super quick hug only. But older people kiss three times and not two times on the cheek. But we normally wave or hug.

🎉 2. Traditions & Celebrations

Festivals, holidays, and local customs that make your culture unique.

“How do you celebrate New Year’s Eve?”

In my country people use fireworks BUTTT my dad laughs and says it is not really fireworks bc he said for Chinese New Year and when he was still in China that is REAL fireworks. And in my country there are now people in the politics discussing if maybe there should be only fireworks from the government and not people. But it is now still alowed. And Dutch people like to eat super fatty snacks like these two:

And people drink champagne but you can also get them WITHOUT alcohol. 🙂 And we always stay at home and my aunt and uncle come and often also friends to eat and talk a LOTTT!!!! 😛 😛

“Traditional weddings around the world”

Ok so if you marry you normally wear a WHITE dress and not like wearing red for good luck or fortune. I went already to weddings and that was really cool. But normally there are like 100 or 200 people and there is a ceremony in a hall but some also do it in a church. So that depends if you are a Christian. ANDDD after it there is a dinner and a dance party.

"Funniest or strangest local holiday you know”

Maybe Sinterklaas people dont know and understand. But it is not a holiday but it is in the evening and it is like Christmas but also different. And children get presents and believe it is from Sinterklaas and the helpers!! Here are pictures:

“Food that’s always on the table at celebrations”

That really depends but people like potato chips and salty snacks but also cake or pie. But for birthday of course birthday cakes!!! 😛 😛 But we normally like also to add Asian snacks but in The Netherlands it is mostly salty and sweet snacks. 🙂

I will write the rest later bc i want to make time for nice answers!!! But i will later the other questions!!! 😊😊

I will replay after ,nice forum 👌

I will still answer the last questions @Kittenwhiskes but i already wanted to tag some people who i think maybe would really love this forum. Bc i think it is very nice to know about different cultures and i know they like it!!!! Sorry if i get it wrong but i think these people also like it perhaps:

@Simone724, @mayuuram, @Fleurke, @Miss_Penpal, @H_E_A_R_T, @diogenes_cask, @AgDel, @psysarah15, @Piwipete, @Sabri_KC, @Colin_Der_Backfisch, @PinkiePie, @Lianshen, @Karumen, @shirazikira, @Traveler_John, @vtt3613

Next week i have special ballet workshop week in our autumn vacation which i often go to in vacations bc it is a really nice group and with super good teachers but maybe in the evening if i can i will answer the rest!!! But i would also really like to read from others bc the questions are super interesting to know what others think!!! 😊😊❤️

I would like to respond in this forum in detail.. I can contribute a lot for south and south east Asian countries.

I would like to respond in this forum in detail.. I can contribute a lot for south and south east Asian countries.

That would be really nice to read abt for example Indian culture and also society!! 😊😇😇

My autumn vacation started now bc the last class is cancelled!!!!!!! But it will be super busy like i wrote so i dont know if i have time later this week to write more. So i wanted to already answer the 3rd part of the questions:

🗣️ 3. Language & Communication

How do words, tone, and gestures shape our interactions?

“Sayings or proverbs that don’t translate well”

I think a LOTTT of the proverbs and also sayings are maybe really weird in English. So for example if you talk too much and the other person gets super crazy you can say: i talk the ears off your head!! But if you say that in English to somebody they maybe think that you are really crazy.

“Body language that can get misunderstood”

Maybe that older persons give three kisses when they meet each other but in other countries two and we prefer always maybe give short hug if you are friends or know each other well or wave.

“Languages you’d love to learn”

For me I want to learn French better but we have that already in school. But i mean like you can maybe study half a year in Paris or another city. That would be really cool. And i want to learn Italian and Korean.

“How texting culture differs between countries”

One thing is super funny so like my dad is super traditional and if he sends texts in Chinese or to his colleagues sometimes Dutch on What's App or We Chatt he sends like it is a letter!!!! So it is super formal and we just send texts super quickly and it is different than you send for example an e-mail to a teacher or super formal something. But he does that all the time and i think that is really funny!! 😛 😛

So i am very interested in other cultures and if you want you can answer some questions 🙂

    IN LOVE KITTENWHISKES ❤️💞

1. Everyone eats what he likes or what their like (like me😡), but if traditional it's porridge.

2. By car, bus or bike

3. We don't eat potatoes and bread in one meal, cuz potatoes are our second bread. And RUSSIANS are VERY surprised and offended, when they are asked to call our country correctly, Belarus, not Belarussia!!!

4. Mostly handshakes or just wave your hand, but some friends hug

5. We cook a lot of dishes that we will eat for next two weeks, cuz there are too many food, argue and then sit at the table for 5 6 hours. That's why I like only gift part, I hate drunk conversations.

6. We did have our own traditions, but than Russians and tatars came and forbid them. No we have boring tradition of calling a lot of people, doing stupid competitions, and drinking a lot of alcohol

7. Tomato day. In Iv'e a lot of people eat tomatoes and then threw them in each other

8. Herring, potato, bread for my grandpa only, holodnik

9. I'll think and add later

10. We don't have such I think

11. German very much

12. We write ahahahah, not hahahaha. And rarely use emoji, for example, I use them only here.

13. Myth for people here, they can't divide work from life, so many families suffer from it

14. I can communicate with kind and clever people now, I'll die without you all

15. It's normal to beat child. I want say more, you understood

16. Patriarchy, unfortunately, that will be too long article, if I'll write everything I think about it.

17. Straight marriage, 2 children, wife earns a little money, husband more. Ideal for us (not all)

18. No, It's different for every person

19. Normal, but very jealous, if I understood question right

20. Back. No tradition helps us, if you think in other way, I want to hear how and what exactly tradition helps
