As far as I know, insects are arthropods and are one of the most successful phylums in history (and currently the largest we know). If they don't count, nothing count at all.

Like spiders and millipedes, insects are arthropods. Likewise crabs.
But it's a bit more complicated if you look very closely:
Phylogenetically, millipedes and insects belong to the crustaceans...in the broadest sense.
