If friendship is wanting to walk the same road of life with someone for as long as you can (occasionally diverging and meeting up again) perhaps true love is wanting to do more than that with someone and find places/times in your life to linger, to go off the beaten path with them, and to help each other during the more challenging parts of the traversal--if that is not too frivolous and romantic for me to say. I have not fallen in love yet, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. It is simply what I've seen from some people and members of my family.
I think loving themself is the base for loving other people! First you must be lucky with yourself, then you have the calm to love other people!
I think you are right @Piwipete but if you are for example insecure and having anxieties i think that you can still love other persons too like for example your parents and family and maybe later your bf too. But it is important that you feel comfortable as much as you can EVEN when that is super difficult sometimes.
