My experience is that most people looking for people from abroad, not in same country. If they look for same country its mostly because they are not good in foreign languages or esp. english. On the other hands people from other countries are more interesting, because of different cultures.

I agree with you on everything you wrote. Many men think that this is a dating site. Many women are afraid of being harassed.
I've read about a very interesting test (should be available on YouTube) where women created a fake male account on a dating site and were surprised how less answers they got though they wrote very creative texts and answers.
One dating site even reduced their policies, that only women could contact male advertisements. They realized that the success rate for a match was almost dead.
