Penpalgate did change, what I'm mostly sad about is that I lost contact with so many of the people I used to chat with the most.... but ig things will always change wether you want them to, or not.

I had a finnish penpal for almost 22 years (!) and I realized this would never happen again. Because the half of the time was in pre social media time so communicating via mail was common.
And an interesting fact is: Some month ago I found an old mailarchiv with lots of Mails from 2005 - 2007 and it was unbelievable how much trust people had to each other via mailing.
People wrote like talking with their best friend. It was nice that way and people were more patient and nowadays people expect to be available all the time, because we are used too via instant messaging.
Facebook destroyed a lot in that way.
