Hiiii everybody who reads this forum!! 🙋‍♀️ I was just making the list for this forum: https://penpal-gate.net/forum/12-everyday-life-and-customs/10780-today-facts/latest#new_post and i saw that today is International Reducing CO2 Emissions Day.

So maybe it is good to make one time a serious forum abt climate change. And i made some questions and i am really curious what you think but if you want to post smt else about climate change that you think or really are super worried about than you can also do that below of course!!!!

Questions:

1️⃣ Are you really concerned and super worried abt climate change?

2️⃣ Do you see that climate change happens in YOUR country or where you live?

3️⃣ What do you think should happen and do you think that your idea WILL happen?

4️⃣ If you are allowed to vote later or maybe now: do you vote for nature parties or do you prefer other parties?

5️⃣ Do you do some things differently so it is better for the environment?

6️⃣ What do you think of activists like Extinction Rebellion?

7️⃣ What do you think the earth is like in maybe 20 years after now?

8️⃣ Do you maybe have a question abt climate change that should be in this list?

➡️ New question from @Colin_Der_Backfisch: What measures do you take to fight against climate change?

Thank you very much for anybody who wants to answer the questions above (only answer the questions that you WANT to answer if you do that) or who just wants to post a comment or read the forum. 😊😊🥰

I tag some ppl who i hope that want to answer the questions but i hope others will answer too bc it will be nice and good to read about each other i think!!! THANKSSSS very much!!!! 🙏🌈🌞⭐

1)

Absolutely. 100%

2)

Well, I only live in the moment. But yeah, I'm aware of it. And I see many things influencing it.

3)

It'd already be way better if only people would care about what they already know. But almost everyone knows some easy ways to be a part of fighting against climate change, but most ignore them. If they'd only care everything would already be way better.

4)

I don't vote for nature parties only, but I only vote for parties taking measures against climate change.

5) Yes.

6) Don't know enough about them to give a verdict. But I think they support the right goals.

7) Worse. Way worse. The amount of damage grows exponentially and only hope I have is more people would become aware of it in that period of time.

8) What measures do you take to fight against climate change?

Many thanksss @Colin_Der_Backfisch for answering the questions!!!! 🙏🙏😊😇 I just saw it before going to sleep so i was just in time to also add your question in the list!!! 😛 😛 I will also answer tomorrow after school and im curious what you will think. 🙂 Have a nice evening everybody!!!!!!! 🥱🥱😴⭐🌖✨

1️⃣ Are you really concerned and super worried abt climate change?

I wouldn't say super worried. I am concerned because it somewhat affect my field, and also because it will probably makes things a little harder. However, I find that a great amount of effort is put in making it apocalyptic and instill extreme fear in people's mind, especially the youngers of us, while nothing is properly done to change our lifestyle.

So, from what I see, climate change is a real problem, but it is used to manipulate the opinion for politic and marketing ends. It just makes things worse because when people who are already suspecting it to be fake finds out these tricks, then they prefer to deny everything rather than the greenwashing part.
In the meantime, because the problem is very convenient, no proper action is done to mitigate it properly on the global level (ignoring the fact that it's extremely hard and that many countries outside occident don't give a damn about environment). We thus end up with a rather funny paradox: We have extremely worried people who, at the same time still have high carbon footprint.

2️⃣ Do you see that climate change happens in YOUR country or where you live?

Yes. In Brittany, we have more heatwaves than when I was a child, and elsewhere in France, I see less snow. I ithink it would have been funny to take pictures every year when I was traveling with my family to see the difference by year, but the Mer de Glace (a glacier in the Alps) clearly gets smaller and smaller.

3️⃣ What do you think should happen and do you think that your idea WILL happen?

If we want to mitigate it, then global political actions similar to what was done to stop the Ozon hole, though harsher probably. However this pose major challenges, because it would affect our comfort, lifestyle, economic system... but our current energy is depending a lot on carbon emissions

4️⃣ If you are allowed to vote later or maybe now: do you vote for nature parties or do you prefer other parties?

Absolutely not. The green parties in France are an absolute joke. Their stance are ideological and motivated to grab power, like I said earlier. It is very rarely scientifically robust, which is sadenning on questions like that.
I do not prefer other parties either though. They are all terrible and belong to the same basket at the moment; not to mention that all the power is in EU's hands, which is also led by a bunch of lobbies and vassals rather than competent leaders working for the people.

5️⃣ Do you do some things differently so it is better for the environment?

No. I would say I made things worse by taking the plane too often during the past years. For the rest, I live without extravagance, I think. The only thing I could potentially do for environment is indirectly through calling for conservation measures.

7️⃣ What do you think the earth is like in maybe 20 years after now?

No idea, but it doesn't look like it will be too funny, ahah

1. Yes, I am. This is so serious.

2. I've noticed a lot of changes in climate over the 5-6 years. And then from what I've been told of 10-20 years ago.

3. I think as same @Lianshen, but without the concern about comfort so much, we need to give it up.

4. I'm not allowed to vote. But every Party here promises for greenery. However, I've only ever trusted one party.

5. Yes, me and my family as well as many people in India are doing so many things differently.

6. I actually don't know who they are.

7. I don't know, but I hope we haven't destroyed the Earth.

1. Yes concerned

2. Yeah we don’t have as much snow

3. Idk, we are at a point where it’s already pretty fucking messed up. The People need to change

4. I vote for what I think is right

5. As a child I was always wearing the old clothes of my cousins and my Mother loves the Nature in General, I used to pick up trash when I was playing in the Forest. I still do it tho. My Mom made me a very aware person.

I used to cry about climate change or when trees were dying but right now I am on that good vibes trip and try to tell myself that everything is going to be alright because maybe the world could change if we were more positive because they teach us to be depressed and sad with our situation but we can’t do that much about it, the only thing we as one person can change, is the way we react to things.

I swear Climate Change is absolutely not my fault. I would do very different, and I am disgusted by some people’s behavior.

6. Whats that. There were activitits when my grandma was little. If they really make a change why is it getting worse?

7. Not even tomorrow is promised. We should celebrate every damn day.

8. I am not throwing my trash into nature, I mainly buy local food, I don’t drive my car for a route that is maybe like a 20min walk. And I don’t throw trash into the ocan tho. And my house is pretty cold even in winter because I don’t need to heat it if I can simply wear warmer clothes? Oh and my family uses shopping bags for centuries.

➡️ New question from @Colin_Der_Backfisch: What measures do you take to fight against climate change?

1. I know it exits and know its a issue but not super worried.

2. Not really only thing is winter came a little late but its still here.

3. Just the basics people stop littering and bying useless stuff and over spending. No many people cant really think that much past themselfs to do that.

4. Ill never vote for them. Im voting for another party as soon as I get my vote.

5. Just the basic stuff I mentioded before I buy used clothes and recycle and fix stuff before even thinking about bying new. Fun fact also saves a lot of money.

6. Hate them.

7. We will still be here.

8. Isnt this just number five again?

THANKSSSSSS everybody who took the time to answer the questions!! 🤗🤗🥰 We also talk a LOTTT abt the topic in our school like in society class (in Dutch it is called maatschappijleer). So these are my answers:

1️⃣ Are you really concerned and super worried abt climate change?

Yes. I think it is maybe one of the most important topics bc if nothing happens the damage cant be repaired anymore. And that is for nature but also countries that can even disappear like island countries or with a LOTTTT of damage bc of the weather if it changes. Like some countries that will be only deserts or with too much and super heavy rains that there are floods or hurricanes or typhoons. And of course a lot more but these are only examples.

2️⃣ Do you see that climate change happens in YOUR country or where you live?

In my country maybe not so much like in other countries. But it gets warmer and also the winters are normally not so heavy and it took super long to get cold. But when it got cold there was a LOTTTT of snow suddenly. And if the oceans get a lot bigger than my country can also have a problem bc of the Northsea. And maybe floods perhaps also bc of rivers.

3️⃣ What do you think should happen and do you think that your idea WILL happen?

I think that it is important that EVERYBODY helps in getting fewer polution in EVERYYY way. So not only CO2 but also like plastics or gasses or other polutions. But for example if one country does smt about it than others just dont really care and polute more bc of factories or oil or other reasons.

4️⃣ If you are allowed to vote later or maybe now: do you vote for nature parties or do you prefer other parties?

For me nature is important as topic so if i am allowed to vote i think that is one thing to look what parties think but also other topics.

5️⃣ Do you do some things differently so it is better for the environment?

For me the things that I do is what we already did a long time like for example buying clothes not only in stores but also a lot on Marktplaats or that you get some things from other ppl and you take it over. And i dont buy a lot of things like books or gadgets or other things. I cant pay for that and also we dont have space bc our house is not really big anyway and it is also much better for the environment if you dont order like 872983182 things a month that come from far away. And we dont fly a lot only maybe like 1 time a year my dad and we all 1 time in 2 or 3 years to visit family in China and mostly my grandmother in Nanjing bc she is not doing really well.

6️⃣ What do you think of activists like Extinction Rebellion?

I made a post abt XR some time ago here: https://penpal-gate.net/forum/12-everyday-life-and-customs/11088-extinction-rebellion And i think the way that they protest is really wrong bc ppl only get angry about it and they sometimes block roads and dont care if for example smb must go to a hospital or there is another emergency that is super important. So it is good that ppl are for the environment but not the way they do that at all.

7️⃣ What do you think the earth is like in maybe 20 years after now?

Im afraid that a lot of damage happens like the rainforest being super tiny and small or ice that is melting on the northpole or countries that become like deserts fully and other big things that can change.

8️⃣ Do you maybe have a question abt climate change that should be in this list?

No bc i made the list. 😛 😛 BUTTT im curious maybe other ppl have questions to add and i will do that of course.

➡️ New question from @Colin_Der_Backfisch: What measures do you take to fight against climate change?

For me like what i wrote: so also using things second hand. An example is clothes but also i dont normally buy books but you have in some train stations and other places that there is a big closet and you can leave books there but also look if you want to take one and if you finished it than you can just put it back when you want. And i do everything normally on my bike except some time ago when i had an accident then my dad brought me to school with the car but normally on my bike even if it rains or is dark or cold really. So things like that.

Alas, I feel like this is extremely western centered. From my experience, Asians and Latin Americans nations I have seen don't really care about that. Plastic, typically, is overused in Japan and Vietnam; pollution in poorer countries is not really a topic for common people - they don't care about it.
There is few to no programs in conservation biology there, or it's run and funded by western institutions very often.

I suppose those countries have other priorities, mainly economic development and fighting poverty.

1️⃣ Are you really concerned and super worried abt climate change?

Not at all. It's normal for the climate to change from year to year. Plus, the earth isn't getting warmer, it's just that the warm places are moving elsewhere and the cold places moving elsewhere. Here in Quebec, the winters have been colder for a few years now.

2️⃣ Do you see that climate change happens in YOUR country or where you live?

Yes, like I said above, the winters are colder here.

3️⃣ What do you think should happen and do you think that your idea WILL happen?

I think people should calm down about this. Climate change has always existed and human behaviour is just a small percentage of the cause of it. Did you know there's a whole new kind of therapy called eco-anxiety counseling (or climate-aware therapy)? We wouldn't need therapy for it if it wasn't a mental problem. Of course I'm not saying the world is perfect as it is now, but it's certainly not in danger either. I think people should be more careful of where they throw away their trash, but not because they're afraid of losing their world. They should do it because it's basic human decency, we're not pigs rolling around in our waste.

4️⃣ If you are allowed to vote later or maybe now: do you vote for nature parties or do you prefer other parties?

I'd rather not answer this because I don't know enough about politics yet to make a good decision.

5️⃣ Do you do some things differently so it is better for the environment?

If I throw away something and it falls back out of the bin, I put it back in. I also don't throw away food or things that don't need to be thrown away yet.

And when I'm older, I'd also like to go see some ocean plastic pollution someday and try to find a way to clean it up. Maybe people who own boats and go over there sometimes could bring back plastic to recycle it instead of just saying "Oh no, plastic in the ocean! Let's complain and do nothing about it!" I know it costs fuel, but still...

6️⃣ What do you think of activists like Extinction Rebellion?

I don't know what it is.

7️⃣ What do you think the earth is like in maybe 20 years after now?

Very different because some cities will expand, some will move, and some will disappear. The scenery will also change a lot, new plants will be discovered and others will go almost extinct. Not much can happen in 20 years though.

8️⃣ Do you maybe have a question abt climate change that should be in this list?

Not really.

➡️ New question from @Colin_Der_Backfisch: What measures do you take to fight against climate change?

I'm not doing anything special, although my parents raised me well so I'm a clean person. And I know how to make objects last instead of always throwing them away when there's a scratch and buying new ones.

Not at all. It's normal for the climate to change from year to year. Plus, the earth isn't getting warmer, it's just that the warm places are moving elsewhere and the cold places moving elsewhere. Here in Quebec, the winters have been colder for a few years now.

Thank you very much for answering @Miss_Penpal and i had no idea that there is eco-anxiety counseling. 🙄🙄 That is really new and i dont know if that is even in my country also here but i can check later.

Alas, I feel like this is extremely western centered. From my experience, Asians and Latin Americans nations I have seen don't really care about that. I suppose those countries have other priorities, mainly economic development and fighting poverty.

I think you are right abt that ppl see it REALLYY different. Like for example my uncle in Nanjing he says that countries in the West they had a lot of polution in the past with factories and other ways and it made them rich. So now they cant complain that for example China polutes too to make the economy stronger. But i think it is also different bc in the past we did not know completely what would happen and now scientists know a LOTTTT more. But it is a difficult problem and i dont think that outside western countries that other countries will change soon how they think abt it.
