I have lived a good part of my life without a cell phone and without the internet. Who remembers those times? Was it better or worse? Could young people today live without cell phones and the internet?

When I was on vacation for a week, I used to leave my phone at home and use a camera for pictures. It was nice to leave it at home, but for longer times, I don't think I'd want to leave my phone.

I think we can live without smartphones. But I don't know why.
You can do a smartphone detox now and then.
I remember the Corona period when we were locked up for weeks. It was so terrible. The internet saved some lives!

I think it's just like the AI thread: the Internet and cell phones are extremely powerful tools that will either allow you to achieve greatness, or destroy yourself. Sometimes both 😛. I'm happy I grew up before it became overwhelming, it's very very easy to get addicted today

We are all addicted to these things now. Unfortunately. I think we lived better before.
Better or not i think it's depends. Every era has pros and cons. I heard from my mom, my mother was born in 1965 (so she's 60 now), at that time it's so damn hard to find public transportation only to access capital. Plus the access about information, education etc is very limited, only a borjouis or richie who can access easily, and the quality of academy isn't as great as nowadays. Moreover, the choice of mate is not as easy and numerous as today, so a lot of them endup marries whoever is close to them. And at that time, social inequality between women and men are very noticeable. But, ofcourse at that era, the pollution, inflation, price isn't as high as nowadays. Plus In the past, the woke agenda was not as hard selling as it is now.
Overall, the "woke agenda" situation in Indonesia is still in the development and adaptation stage. Although there are efforts to raise awareness of social issues, the main challenge lies in the proper understanding and implementation that is appropriate to the cultural and social context of Indonesia. in indonesian itself there's a lot of race, culture, religion, etc (which total there are 600 ethnic group, 12 religion), ykno the more variate the harder to united each mindset. In real life, there's a lot of activice which from young generation (genz), they are really active in demand and voice their rights, especially about equality. And yep nobody dare to againts them. Even older generation.
But in internet, it's more into hilarious. Mostly supporter comes from liberal young adult (gen z) who knows the whole concept and they fight their right in tiktok, instagram, but always got againts by the conservative millenials - gen x or some conservative men hhhhh🤣if you ever see it, nah, the againts parties knows they are wrong and misunderstanding the context, but naahhh, it's no longer about right or wrong, but pride fight🤣sometimes i find it hilarious to see it. But at the same time it's so tiring until sometimes i feel like i need to go into switzerland and start farming 😂😂😂

Could you explain what "woke" exactly is? I've never really understood what it is exactly.

Me too
"Woke" is an adjective that means being aware of and attentive to important social issues, especially racial and social justice. "Woke" originated in African American English. The earliest known use of "woke" in a political or cultural sense was in a 1962 New York Times Magazine article by African-American novelist William Melvin Kelley. The word gained more widespread use in 2014 as part of the Black Lives Matter movement. The act often got againts by some people because of feminazi, it's slang that stand for feminism nazi (because they act so radical) who say want equality but actually their act more suitable to called as matriarchy (same like patriarchy, but women) mostly feminazi also got againts by conservative parties. Because of their (feminazi) misconception about the whole concept, the glorious purpose of the woke agenda became ruined and people starting to question the needs, the urgency, the actual purpose of woke agenda. That's why until rn, no matter from which country or side of universe, it's agenda still debatable but also people (who supporting equality) still fight for it. The question, is feminism and the supporter of this agenda are bad? Some of them yes (feminazi who actually didn't understand whole concept) and some of them no (more focus into equality and helping people in smarter way)
of course it is possible to live without it, just as it is possible to live without sugar.
But man is more attracted by momentary pleasure than by health. I sometimes manage to remove my cell phone if immersed in nature, I also avoid taking photos because I think they also have a negative effect (is the first thought we have when seeing something beautiful is to photograph it? I can only understand this if you have a real passion for photography)
The cell phone is defined by a single word, but in reality it includes many things, this is one of the reasons why it can be both useful and harmful. I see it as a Trojan horse for the control of minds and customs (but it would be more correct to talk about "sugar" instead of "foods that contain sugar")
@Etienne Isn't there a phone ban at school in France?
