Yes you did. Three times losing finalists. The best team never to win the cup.

Yes we should have back then but of course u had muller etc and argentina kempes

No, im not German, im English but live in Germany. My team didn’t qualify for the 1974 and 1978 finals. I remember watching the World Cup in 1978, and amazed at how good Kempes and Luque were with their goal scoring performances. It’s strongly suspected that Argentina cheated to reach the final against Netherlands. They were behind Brazil on points and had to beat Peru by 4 goals in order to qualify. It looked like an easy 6 - 0 victory in the end, but there have been many allegations of bribery and threats ever since then. Even some Argentinian players believed that something was wrong. The format of the games has been changed since. Final group matches must be held at the same time, so that nobody can “throw” a game for an easy draw, for example.

Ah thank u for explaining. This is true indeed. A farce and also johan cruijf refused to play in argentina because of the junta. He was so special!

He was indeed, one of the all time greatest, and such a shame that he didn’t get to hold up the World Cup.

Agreed he was one of the best..and his famous quotes .one of the best trainers too.and he made one of the weirdest penalties in history.. with ajax.he passed it to jesper olsen to score

Paolo/Simone/LL/Vlad: My impression may be incorrect as I lack time to properly watch weekly matches in the Serie A, but it seems that current teams in Italy favour instant results over a viable future. It is my impression that playing time offered to new generations of young and inexperienced players is significantly less than in other major European leagues. This should be a delicate balance of virtues, but seems to be largely lost in the Serie A.

As regards the Orange squad: we have a multitude of players who are active in main European leagues and representing major clubs. With the exception of Frenkie de Jong and to some extent still VvD, most of these ‘established’ players cannot be deemed to be the main icons of their respective teams. Furthermore, there are obvious shortcomings of the Dutch national squad (e.g. defensive vulnerabilities when encountering speed and no world class strikers). Japan is a formidable opponent not to be underestimated. Sweden can benefit from Isak gaining strength in the months to come - a great and potentially lethal duo with Gyökeres. No current dreams of climbing Mount Olympus in the summer.

Somewhat in haste as family duties are calling. The title race in La Liga demonstrates the challenge as currently faced by most Italian teams. Real Madrid as a malfunctioning unit of high cost mercenaries or a financially distressed Barca which had to rely significantly on their youth programme to generate a new line of star players (Pedri, Lamine and others). The spending bonanza will always be lost facing highly leveraged powerhouses in the Premier League and elsewhere. The Barca recipe may be an established and viable route for Italian teams to emulate.

Real Bayern 1 2, great surprise for me but deserved victory Bayern and Sportinglisboa Arsenal 0 1,very hard this match for Arsenal

This evening AtleticoMadrid Barcelona and Psg Liverpool

Yes, great result for Bayern. Arsenal have been poor recently and I predicted a draw. I’m thinking PSG and Barcelona should both win at home tonight.

Real is a ragtag team of champion, Bayern is a team

Yes I agree. Good individuals like Mbappe, Vinicius but Bayern play better together.

Bayern @ Madrid was a great game yesterday. Very thrilling and an outstanding Manuel Neuer. 🙂

The bitter irony for Real Madrid is that Xabi Alonso’s legacy could have been fast paced attacking football with high pressure and a dominant presence on the full length of the pitch - somewhat in a similar fashion as BM. His philosophy was torpedoed by several star players who decided otherwise.

Player power is out of control there. The manager can’t do his job when he’s being undermined. It’s just wrong. These “stars” behave like spoiled children when they’re being paid millions to do their jobs.

and who gets to insert the cards correctly.....

Psg is better than last year,Barcelona desappointed me,no final Real Barcelona as i hoped....maybe,with these team you never know

One of the main takeaways this CL round: the French attacking options at the World Cup are insane - also on the bench . Clear favourites to lift the trophy.

The main challenges will be the tropical weather conditions and performing on high altitudes. If this part does not obstruct the French conquest, Argentina will be dethroned.

France and Spain are both quoted as favourites around 5/1 or 6/1, depending where you look. I agree that the French attacking options are pretty awesome, but in the past they have sometimes blown their chances when the team has had disagreements. Mbappe has a huge ego and has caused problems at Real already. I think Spain are better prepared for the hot weather conditions, but I agree that one of these two should dethrone Argentina, who haven’t been very impressive recently. Can Messi be relied on again at his age, to win it for them? I think it’s doubtful, personally.
