I don't really use it but perhaps you could make the part of who's online bigger and show more than just 6 people or like what @Yue_ said a survey to ask how you are feeling.
If you're on desktop, you're familiar with the dashboard world map featuring where the people you've ever talked to are from:

How useful/cool is it to you? Should it stay or be replaced with something more useful?
Feel free to comment or just vote with emojis if it's easier for you.
I personally like it because it allows you to get an overview of all the penpals you got, and it’s pretty useful to remember who is from where. 🙂
But there is one thing that bothers me a little, the people who don’t answer back.
Sometimes I’d sent messages to people, but some of them never responded (usually because they're inactive), and the fact that they appear on my map distorts the overview a bit, because I didn't actually have a conversation with them, it's just because I sent a message that wasn't seen or answered.
Here are a few examples :
And yet those people are labeled on the map.
There’s also people with whom I had a very short conversation before they disappear, and with whom I didn't talk for years, so long that I doubt if i can still say they're my penpals. But technically we did chat so I don't really know...
How about marking the penpals only when the two people sent each other at least one message ?
Adding it back to the current homepage means removing existing features, so it's always a battle between what to show vs what will be push down the page. Since the map didn't have any time sensitive component to it, it was removed from the top of the page but it might be re-added possibly as its own separate submenu or something sometime in the future. It isn't a priority since only desktop users had access to it, and mobile users make up the vast majority of members nowadays
I'm not sure how useful it is but it's not harmful either. Those who find it meaningful will use it, others can easily ignore it. But if it's always one thing goes to make room for another for technical or some other reason, then that one might not be such a sought-after gadget to have. I'm not sure I have any ideas what might replace it, though.
Sabri_KC's suggestion was good thought, that penpals would only be marked if both have participated in the conversation. Just one person sending a message to someone is hardly a conversation.

Agree with all what has been said here. Also, I'm sorry but I forgot about its existence since it disappeared, to the point I thought it was referring to the map of visited countries on our profile, which I absolutely love.
