LIVING with NATURE
Up here on the mountain and on the edge of the Alps, we live in close harmony with the weather conditions. Over the past ten years, conditions have changed significantly. Dairy farming and ski
tourism are naturally tied to the weather. It is not easy anymore....
The natural conditions up here are harsh. Winters are long, sometimes bitterly cold, and the storms
are fierce. All these conditions practically force the people living here to engage with nature.
It is therefore perhaps a very natural effect that, in the forests, clearings, and paths through the lungs
of our region, we also cultivate an appreciation for what we have been given. A mountain village and
its inhabitants may initially seem somewhat reserved to outsiders. I moved to Vorarlberg from northern Germany 21 years ago and have built a second home here over that time. I may not be fully settled in,
but I am certainly accepted and friendships are formed over time.
______ The mutual influences have enriched our lives.
The photographs here certainly speak for themselves and capture the
anticipation of the long-awaited spring during the winter months. It
will still be a few weeks, but this year, too, I’ll be heading out on the
hunt with my mountain bike and camera....
