I followed the coast from Palermo to Siracusa by the south, more or less. So I went to Trapani, Selinunte, Sciacca, Agrigente and some cities/villages in South East of the Island. I couldn't visit inland though because I didn't have a car, so I still have a lot to see there.

A man managed to make me eat cherry tomatoes and I think I can use this sole example to say that Sicily was very good for food, ahah. Else, among others: Arancini (I really miss it) cannoli, granita e brioche, different kind of pasta including pasta with cuttlefish ink, 1-2 pizzas, swordfish, cassatelle di ricotta for what I can remember right now.
I never missed my hometown food there, unlike in other countries I have seen!

Missing Arancini is a big error, when you are in Sicily! Dear Lianshen, when you will be again in Sicily you must eat arancini con eggplant and cheese or con meat sauce, peas and cheese 🙂 Arancini are great and super tasty!

Yes, I miss the whole Sicilian kitchen...every day! And going to the Sicilian open market and buy fish directly from the sea...the fish market at Catania is one of the best I ever have seen! 🙂
Aya, I don't think it's a good idea to submit and do things just to please restaurant owners. However, if it was written "anipasto" or ""aperitivo", it surely is the equivalent of an entrance/starter meal.
In Italy like in France, meals can be split in 8 parts or more and last for hours during festivities especially, so it certainly can be very strange for other cultures
But we thought it is maybe the culture custom in Rome and not what the restaurant owner wants. Because if we travel we try to do the same as the culture in that country. But I cant eat so much food because I have not space for that!! But my dad is always hungry so he can eat like a big bear and my uncle too! 😛
Dear Yue, Italians eat a lot, they eat too much. In a lunch there can be an "antipasto" for example with cured meats, then a first course such as pasta, then a second course of meat or fish, then fruit, then dessert, then coffee...and bread must never be missing
Yes we saw that too BUT the people in Rome are not very big!! Still they eat a lot! And our hotel was not in the centre because that is not so expensive. So the restaurants near our hotel were different than in the centre. But if you go and eat lunch near a nice palace or a big street they speak more English and we ask how the lunch or dinner works. But everywhere the food was nice but also heavy. My mom made a lot of photos of the dishes and also one time in a market.
And when people speak English I could help my mom and dad because they dont speak English very well. But people in Rome were very friendly but if they speak Italian they speak very fast! 🙂
If I look on google it is very pretty the city Pennarossa!! What is your favourite place in Genoa? 🙂
And I know PaulGolem is from Sutri because he told me that. And I am curious where Roseee lived before she moved to Sweden. And Lawrence, Carfy and Lucid what are your cities in Italy?
My favorite place in Genova is la Piazza de Ferrari…there are wonderful buildings. The old town of Genova is fantastic!
I looked at it Piwipete and it looks very beautiful! But from the pictures online I like the pictures during the day more than in the evening. Because everything looks more like original than in the evening with all the colour lights in the fountain. 🙂

Francesco Petrarca wrote of Genoa: "You will see a regal city, leaning against an alpine hill, superb for men and walls, whose appearance alone indicates it as mistress of the sea".

That is like a very beautiful poem! I like that you are very proud of your city!! 🙂 So all members from PPG come to visit Genoa and Pennarossa organises a big party at the Genova is la Piazza de Ferrari that Piwipete mentioned! 😛
