Hello everybody!! 🙋‍♀️💁‍♀️

This forum is made by @Melifekyybor and @Yue_ and we are super curious what you think about different social media bans!!! 😬😬🙄🙄🙄 This is happening:

1️⃣ In the USA maybe tomorrow there will be a TikTok BAN!!! And EVEN if you are not in the USA you can still see it because content creators and uploaders are often in the USA!! And maybe other countries will do the same!

2️⃣ In Australia the minimum age now for social media is 15 or 16 ANDDD we saw in the Dutch news that maybe it will also be in The Netherlands because they will talk about it in politics!! 😔😔😔 Maybe before they should choose anything they should FIRSTTT ask what we think about it because it is about us and not them!!!!!!

3️⃣ China blocked recently PPG and Mimi told us for example that you need a VPN or you cant use PPG anymore. 🙁

⬆️⬆️ What do you think about the social media bans as above BECAUSE it can happen in other countries TOO!!! And of course the above bans are very different from each other but maybe it will become worse than this too!! Do you think that the government should decide it or that persons can decide it themselves? And what are your other thoughts? 🆘🆘

Thank you very much!! 🙏🙏

The TikTok ban in the USA is not yet certain i understand that from @Melifekyybor but a lot is happening now. And in Australia it is already a rule about minimum age and MAYBE later also in my country so if it would be minimum 15 i cant be on PPG anymore. 🙁 And maybe in other countries it can perhaps be the same if that happens.

It's good that tiktok gets banned or at least limited, and same for other social medias, but a simple ban isn't enough to get rid of it. You mention that PPG is banned in China, yet the very simple solution is to use a VPN and... that is, you are on PPG, Tiktok, instagram or anything you want.

For such a "primitive" solution to work, you would have to get a ban on a large scale; else, you need to find a more elaborate way to effectively ban a social media from a country, which would probably be synonym of intrusiveness.

As for age limitations, so far, they have never really worked... YouTube, IG or TikTok are +13 years old, and you have a plethora of underage children using them alone still.

I think a TikTok ban is a very good idea. People act stupid; make dancing videos in the halls and use public space for it and think they have the right to do that over people wanting to pass them without being in a video of a random stranger.

An age restriction for social media is also a good idea. Teenagers think they're better when they have more likes and "friends". People become insecure over their bodies, start to compare themselves to others and their mental wellbeing declines. Social media also gives an unrealistic image of how your life should look like. When all your "friends" on social media e.g. post pictures of them and their boy-/girlfriend, people might feel pressured to get into a relationship as well, because they view it as "normal" and don't want to be left out. This can go the same way with partying and using drugs, alcohol or cigarettes.

Teenagers often don't realise the dangers of social media in relation to their wellbeing and their privacy. If there is a good way to prevent young teenagers to use social media, I'm am advocate for implementing it.

Thank you very much @Lianshen! Merci beaucoup! I looked up for news in English about TikTok and here is more news: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/17/politics/tiktok-ban-supreme-court/index.html and https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/17/politics/tiktok-ban-supreme-court/index.html

Why do you think that TikTok should be banned or limited @Lianshen? Thank you very much!!

And i hope that @Etienne will alow that i can stay on PPG and everybody who maybe is not allowed with the age rules anymore. But i dont know it if he agrees. 🙁

But @-Kiki- what age do you think should be the rule in The Netherlands?

I highly dislike most social media, so I don't care wether platforms are banned or not in certain countries. Penpal sites are okay, but other things like TikTok where you just waste your days scrolling away, or X where no user has any private life, I think it's just ridiculous.

Also, maybe people would be smarter if they stopped looking at blue light all day when their brains are still developing. The brain stops developing in the mid to late 20s, so it's totally reasonable to put the minimum age for social media to 15 or 16.

Plus, blue light from screens is very bad for children, as you can see here:

https://www.blockbluelight.com/blogs/news/blue-light-and-kids-development#:~:text=High%20levels%20of%20blue%20light%20exposure%20could%20be%20affecting%20mental,associated%20with%20changes%20in%20mood.

You'll need to scroll up to see the whole thing, I don't know why it automatically goes down. Sorry about that.

@Yue_ i dont use tiktok 🤪i dont use lots of social media just ppg whatsap for family and friends and instagram for my naturepictures i think ghe gouverments have no right to decide in us place but otherwise their are alot of minnors who do things bad of what theysee on net. I think minimum age for social media 16 years is good because im a mam 🤗

So it does look like a lot of people already in this forum think that maybe everybody below 15 or 16 should not be here. That means that a lot of people should maybe stop because PPG is also social media. And if that is what most think i will understand it and that we are not really welcome or that people dont approve it really.

Some time ago a person said that the forum used to be boring in the past because nothing happened and i think that the last half year the most active forums A LOTTTT were made by people who are maybe not so welcome. And i think that PPG will change if that is true or a new rule.

Soo will you leave this PPG site guys???? 😭😭😭😭Because we are under 16 years

I mostly need the reasons why in this case the US is banning TikTok and why China banned PPG recently (which made me actually a little angry).

Now to the fact that some countries will change the minimum age of social media. I think this is something good for our health but also not the best thing cuz some social media is for better things then others. So I would say it depends, if it is good or not.

I don't have a good relationship with social media. After all, they are not used to connect people but to make money. And to access communication data etc. Since TikTok, Facebook, X or whatever doesn't value facts but regards every lie as an alternative fact, I find its use questionable. But a ban comes close to censorship...and I take a critical view of that.

I dont know it yet. Even if it is not the rule now yet in my country, if people here think and say that it should be the rule i dont feel that we are welcome or people dont approve it really.

I think it is wrong and that everybody should use social media and be allowed how they like it. I only have PPG now as social media and my parents decide if i can be for example on IG later and not the government. I have a lot of friends outside PPG in real life, family, school, sports and other things. Why is it bad to also be on PPG?? Or for others on other social media? I dont agree with it. BUTTTTT if people here do believe that we should not really be here, then I feel not welcome at all.

If people feel that way that you should be at least 15 or older, do you still feel welcome @NILU1234, @Parsaa, @Emmiiii_17_11 and @Boa_RC (and many others here who are not yet 15)?

Ok i will get you out of the tags! 🙂

Yes please only tag individuals when actually relevant, it's not supposed to be a spam tool to artificially farm engagement 😛.

Why ban social media at all? All forms of censorship are dangerous: it is the parents' responsibility to educate their children and ensure they make proper use of the Internet. Banning is often just a pretext to easily shut down something one doesn't like. In this case, Tiktok isn't any worse than American social media, it's just that Americans want a monopoly on Internet/entertainment. Pretending Tiktok is dangerous for showing shorts is the easiest way to slay competition. The infamous age old "think of the children" strategy.

And i hope that @Etienne will alow that i can stay on PPG and everybody who maybe is not allowed with the age rules anymore. But i dont know it if he agrees. 🙁

Why do you say that?
