its always how you use the app more than the app itself.
I also think that what @mayuuram said is right that here in PPG it is safe and if i feel unsafe i will tell it to @Etienne and also some of my friends to talk about it. And i read everything again above and i think that is what for example @-Kiki- meant.
Most of my friends at school have IG and also use for example tiktok and snap and other apps but my parents dont allow it. So i think that the parents can decide it and not the government.
And i think also what @viochka said is right too that it depends on how you use the app too.
I agree with @Etienne banning apps isn't the best solution, let me explain. cause every content in each account it's according to their history of his online activities. The existing algorithm works according to each user, whether the user often consumes stupid content or even the content is informative, full of positivity.
There is a crucial point that is completely ommited here: It's not only about children or stupid content, but also about other factors. Namely how all social medias are built for the user to get addicted to it and how social medias have detrimental effects on people (adults too!).
Another point that you mention is that the algorithm work for each user. On TikTok, you have no notion of choice of content. Everything is suggested by an allmighty algorithm and that is another source of concerns, notably because it can be used against the people, but more simply, like any other social media, because it confines the user to a bubble and very little encourage towards something different. On an ideological perspective, that also means that it will push people to radicalism.
This is only the tip of the iceberg, but generally, the algorithms and AI on the internet are often full of problems on social medias (but also in Google), including national and ethical problems... So,yes, banning is certainly not the best solution, but other solutions are much more difficult to implement and there is an emergency to act and limits the damages made by these apps.
Thank you very much @Lianshen for your comment! ๐๐ It is nice that people write what they think and make it clear why too (so not just making statements but explaining it too). And everybody writes not in hostile but in friendly way and I am happy about that. ๐
UPDATE
I saw in the Dutch news that now TikTok is banned in the USA. I looked for news in English and here is the news: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/19/tech/tiktok-ban/index.html

hmmm Social media is a tool, and it is the individual who can make that tool useful or not. To be honest, I don't really put concern about the adults on this issue because adults are categorized as individuals who can take care of themselves, and they are not that stupid. they have right way much than people under them, cause adult should be the one who make the change. (that's why im more put concern on kid under 18)
but if they didn't, simply just ban the person or put them in blacklist, but not the apps. cause at the first time u regist to each social media (including tiktok), you'll be ask what kind of topic you like, and then u choose, and they will provide u with fyp their version.. but you still need to filter & build your own algorithm by click the 'not interested' feature inside shared button. And the algorithm will follow u immediately.
cause tbh, when some people complain about their fyp are trash, but tbh for me, my content are not trashy, it's all related to what i like, what topics do I really delve into & according to what I often search on google or I open the site. the contents of my fyp do not contain any content or circles that spread hate speech, discrimination, attack each other, etc. why? because when I see negative content or comments I immediately click 'not interested'. so it's not that scary it depends on each user, and better ban the user than the apps.
The action of banning the application only shows how lazy it is to select. because logically if everything is banned but the root of the problem is not resolved, issues like this will continue to occur in the future. i know it's not easy, but it doesn't mean it cannot be resolve
if u wanna know, this is what inside my account
1. cooking tutorials
2. pets
3. foods or place recommendation
4. beauty & health tips
5. and my fav game
so are contents like that harmful and trash? nope. so back to each individual, protect yourself, be wise, filter yourself and surrounds yourself with positivity. cause in the end, universe will connect positive people with positivity, if not, it's u who need to reflects, to figure why. blaming the tools will never find it's ending. one of proof ya people from tiktok move to rednote. cause the root aren't solved yet.

You're right. However, one could make the exact same point about alcohol, tobacco, and even sugar. Should we ban anything that has a risk to trigger addiction? I personally very much believe in individual responsibility. Of course some people will fall into these "traps", but hey it is natural selection (which I believe in too, even in our modern world, but it's probably a controversial opinion).

Again, you are right. But I think any system automatically picking topics for you is what you ultimately want too. Even if nothing was automated you would naturally gravitate towards what you like (ie: what you want to see) because we all crave that almighty confirmation bias. Nobody wants to see content that opposes their viewpoint, which at the end of the day is not the algorithm's fault

I think I reported it in another topic, but what China did with Tiktok is pretty smart: they use the power of the algorithm to push educational/smart content to users. That way, if kids are going to spend time on social media, they're going to see stuff that benefits them. It is still control of information by the government which is related to censorship, but hey, at least it is actually for the greater good this time I suppose.
Hello everybody!! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
This forum is made by @Melifekyybor and @Yue_ and we are super curious what you think about different social media bans!!! ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐๐ This is happening:
1๏ธโฃ In the USA maybe tomorrow there will be a TikTok BAN!!! And EVEN if you are not in the USA you can still see it because content creators and uploaders are often in the USA!! And maybe other countries will do the same!
2๏ธโฃ In Australia the minimum age now for social media is 15 or 16 ANDDD we saw in the Dutch news that maybe it will also be in The Netherlands because they will talk about it in politics!! ๐๐๐ Maybe before they should choose anything they should FIRSTTT ask what we think about it because it is about us and not them!!!!!!
3๏ธโฃ China blocked recently PPG and Mimi told us for example that you need a VPN or you cant use PPG anymore. ๐
โฌ๏ธโฌ๏ธ What do you think about the social media bans as above BECAUSE it can happen in other countries TOO!!! And of course the above bans are very different from each other but maybe it will become worse than this too!! Do you think that the government should decide it or that persons can decide it themselves? And what are your other thoughts? ๐๐
Thank you very much!! ๐๐

There's no easy answer to that. Working with bans is not a good sign. But if social media is abused, that's not good either. Social media users really have a huge responsibility. But at the same time, they also have plenty of opportunities to check postings. Parents cannot escape their responsibility to deal with their children and social media. Schools can provide support with offers such as "online competence".
...and we have common sense.
Always stay relaxed.
Why should someone be banned from bodybuilding and camper forums??๐
bcause they thought i was spamming (altough i only whas asking ab the consmuming f 2 very old vehicles), and they thought those forums here not places i belong.
