Trump wants it because of ressources and upcoming important shipping routes when the ICE will be increasingly melts.

Russia and China knows that and they fear they will control these routes because they are Lot shorter than other routes by sea.

Trump is accustomed to excessive and flashy statements. It is his way of approaching problems. He initially makes insane demands and then ends up getting something but not always In the case of Greenland, this could end up with an increased American presence on the island and perhaps mining contracts. I cannot imagine US soldiers invading this territory, taking over the Panama Canal or integrating Canada into the USA. Absurd requirements at the start is a well-known negotiation technique.

But reality always ends up imposing itself. He finally admits that ending the conflict in Ukraine will not take only 24 hours to be solved. He is ready to say anything and everything. From what I know one of his principles is: Any publicity, even bad, is good to take. It is sadly evident that his worst turpitudes and stupidities when they were revealed never tarnished his popularity.
