I just went through my friends list a little, to see if I wanted to talk to some of the people I haven't talked to in a loooong time again, and saw that the messages I had with them a few years ago have disapeared. Do they dissapear after a certain time? If so I find that very weird, bc maybe I want to see if there was a reason we stopped talking, scroll through old messages for fun or whatever. Or is this a tecnical issue? I honestly don't believe that, am very confused tbh. i don't want to message someone again if there was a reason we stopped talking.
Edit; Just saw that when I scroll down on "Messages" the oldest are 3 years. so maybe older ones get deleted. Why? Too much data? But anyway, some people i know I've messaged and are still on my friend list I can't see the messages, eventhough its not been 3 years.....
Yes the retention period is 3 years (or 10 years for donors). This is to save on storage, otherwise it would be too costly. If you want to keep certain conversations, you may download them to your computer using the export feature.
If you believe some of your conversations are still missing, it's probably because your contact requested a full account deletion, which includes conversations they took part of.

Oooh, okay makes sense, thanks for explaining! I already thought it may be the amount of data or something just wanted to make sure it wasn't my internet or whatever
