Yesterday I knew everything right but did 2 wrong. This time I knew just two and did all right XD 🤣😂😅

Which author wrote 'On the Tendency of Species to form Varieties; and on the Perpetuation of Varieties and Species by Natural Means of Selection'? Charles Darwin ✅️

I will be annoying with this one, but this is not totally true. On the tendency of species to form Varieties is a paper co-written by Charles Darwin AND Alfred Wallace. The paper is the first to expose the theory of evolution by the means of natural selection, and the essay Wallace wrote was the core of that publication.

The story behind it is also quite interesting:

Wallace sent his manuscript to Darwin about his ideas of Evolution after his observation in Malay archipelago because he couldn't publish it himself due to his fieldwork there, but also because he didn't have much network, and wanted a feedback from Darwin.
Darwin, reading Wallace's manuscript would write to his friend, Charles Lyell, to express his shock because Wallace just came with the same idea as Darwin on Evolution independently, but Darwin being a turtle didn't publish anything at that time.

In distress because he felt obligated to help Wallace, but was afraid/frustrated of losing the priority of his work because he hadn't published, he looked for advises from his friends Lyell and Hooker whom urged him to publish about his ideas (Lyell already urged him to publish years before actually...). Thus, that paper was born, with a part of it establishing the anteriority of Darwin on the theory of Evolution, with an abstract for his Origin of Species, and another part being the essay of Wallace

A few things again about that publication specifically:
- Wallace had no word on that arragement, but he seemed really well with it and thanked Darwin/acknoledged Darwin to be the first and even only person to be acknowledged (Darwin would wrote to Wallace multiple time that he was too modest)

- Darwin didn't attend the presentation of the paper to the Linnean Society because his son died at the time (a reason why he took so long to write, beside how afraid he was of the reception of his ideas), it's Lyell and Hooker who did it for him

- The paper was kiind of ignored by the community, or at least didn't attract attention, before Darwin wrote his "best seller".
