Hello to everyone who studies a language (or more than one) on their own. What did help you a lot? What advice would you give people that are new to it?
Hi, I'am just learning Sardinian more or less on my own. My experience is, try to find a book that really explains the structure of a language (to know other -maybe similar - languages, esp. Latin, helps), find a dictionary and learn by heart abt. 1500 words. That's the basis for starting a conversation. Try to think in your normal every day life: How would I say this in xy language. And then try to find people who speak that language. Don't be affraid of making mistakes. Most people are happy that you want to speak or write in their language.
Talking with as many native speakers as you can, asking them to converse in the language you are learning, so they can correct your mistakes. Then, watching series and movies, as well as videos on YouTube, can be a huge help.
