If You Could Live Anywhere for a Year, Where Would You Go and Why?

Hi everyone! I’ve always loved learning about different cultures and dreaming about life in new places. If you had the chance to live anywhere in the world for one year—with no limitations—where would you choose, and what would you hope to experience there?

Would you pick a bustling city, a quiet village, somewhere by the sea, or maybe a place you’ve never even heard of before? What draws you to that spot—the food, the language, the scenery, or something else?

I’d love to hear your stories and maybe even get some travel inspiration!

Looking forward to your replies!

For me it really depends. I think if i could only choose once i pick in China with family in Nanjing so i can be with my grandmom a whole year and take care of her. That is what i would want the most for now. But if it is in the future maybe that IF u go to university maybe that u can study a whole year in another country and i think that would be really nice. Wbu @Samirah_Mira ?? 🙄🙄

Id like to be a student in IIT mandi in HP, and I would be pursuing my BTech.

@Yue_ That’s such a beautiful answer! I love that your first choice would be spending time with your family in Nanjing and taking care of your grandma—that’s really special. I agree, being able to study in another country for a year would be amazing too. There’s so much to learn from living somewhere new!

For me, I think I’d love to spend a year in France or Italy. I’ve always been fascinated by the cultures, languages, and food there, and I’d love to really immerse myself and experience daily life in a totally different place. Plus, it would be a great opportunity to meet new people and maybe even improve my language skills!

That is really cool @Samirah_Mira!!! 😊😇 Do u already speak a little bit French and Italian or do u want to start with that maybe?? And did u already visit France and Italy in Europe or maybe other countries??? Have a nice day!!!! 🌈🌞🌈

I would live in Japan, in countryside, working in a paddy field.

I think my final choice would be either Romania, Spain, Italy, Canada or the U.S.A, maybe Austria, but that'd only be because the girl I love lives there. I'd live, if not in a city, then just outside a city, and I'd run a bussiness in rental cars, cars for sale, electronics (phones, laptops, computers, cameras etc.) and I'd have a Vinted Go locker standing just outside, that locker is actually more for my own good, so I can send things I sell on Vinted much faster and easier.

If I had to stay in France, then I think I'd choose to stay in the Tarn et Garonne, near Lauzerte (82110) or Saint Nazaire de Valentane (82190) in particular, because the people there are so damn friendly and openhearted, and surprising for French people, they can accept a lot, while that's different with, for example, French people in the Cantal (15).

I hope that u can live in one of those countries and that u and your family are more lucky this time bc that was not always the case. So hopefully it will happen soon! 🙂

If I'd work out to start that bussiness, there's a very big chance I will do it far away from my family. Two simply reasons for that.

My two reasons are these:

1 if I will move back to the mountains, it will be to join the girl I love in Austria.

2 if I'm not joining her, I will not move back to the mountains, because I've had inough of them.
