A potluck is a gathering where everyone brings some sort of food or drink for everyone to dine on. This potluck is kind of different. Here, we will take a picture of any meal or drink or even snack/dessert that we are about to eat and share a fun fact or your opinion on it. You may want to talk about its significance in your culture, home, or its significance to you! Maybe just its name 🤷

I think this would be fun if we do it 🤩

Hello everyone!✨👋

Thank you Moon for made this forum 🎀

For this potluck, I’ll be sharing some photos of Indonesian foods and snacks that are popular both here and internationally. source: personal photos and pinterest

First, Cilok, a traditional Sundanese snack in my hometown—made of chewy tapioca balls, usually served with savory peanut sauce, sweet soy sauce, or spicy chili sauce. The fillings vary personally, I like making them with beef trimmings, cheese, or original. Cilok is very popular as street food and loved by many, especially the Sundanese people (West Java) and residents of the capital, bringing back simple, inexpensive, and easily found childhood memories.

Another favorite of mine is Kolak Ubi Ungu, a traditional dessert made from purple sweet potatoes and small glutinous rice balls called cendil, cooked in sweet coconut milk with palm sugar, brown sugar, or white sugar depending on taste. This dish is often enjoyed during festive seasons leading up to Eid, as a snack for breaking fast (takjil), or as a warming treat on rainy or family gathering.

Next, there’s Nasi Goreng which is quite famous as Indonesia’s national dish. It’s usually made with sweet soy sauce, garlic, shallots, and served with a fried egg on top. Nasi goreng is an affordable, filling meal and can be enjoyed anytime.

.

And of course, hehe, my favorite main dish is Rendang. Have you ever heard of it? Rendang is a slow-cooked beef stew that can be simmered for an entire day I’m not exactly sure how long, but it’s rich with coconut milk and complex spices like nutmeg, cloves, and lemongrass, making it incredibly fragrant. Rendang comes from West Sumatra, a region in western Indonesia, and is usually served during special occasions like weddings, traditional ceremonies, or other celebrations.

This is just a small glimpse of the thousands of dishes in Indonesia. I hope you enjoy it Could you tell me about your favorite food or a traditional dish from your country? I’d love to hear what do you think 🤗✨

Have an amazing day!
