Hi everyone,

Is anyone interested in discussing business and finance topics?
We could share personal experiences, insights, and ideas, as well as books we’ve read or are currently reading. I think it would be great to exchange knowledge, learn from each other, and maybe even recommend useful resources. I challenged myself to search for information that will help me understand personal finance and running a business... and connect with people interested in these...

It would be great to find someone that feel related to these topics

aangepast door Jerusa .

maybe, but i don't know much about these topics......... in private chat ore on forums?

what do you know about these topics?

If your interest extends to global financial markets, I can recommend a number of works which are nice reads for the general public. In the event that you have a strong legal or economic background, I can share additional titles which you may wish to add to your reading list.

Personal/consumer finance and financial arrangements available to businesses in the SME sector fall beyond the scope of my main expertise. Depending on the type of business, this would generally take you to the world of secured lending offered by banks, leasing and factoring companies.

Please do realize that both banking practices and laws governing secured lending and ancillary financial arrangements (e.g. leasing, factoring, etc.) vary significantly across the EU. In the event that you wish to establish a business in your current country of residence, it would make sense to consult sources tailored to the situation in Portugal.

I recommend some other books -

  • Zero to one - by Peter Theil
  • Founders at Work - by Jessica Livingston
  • The $100 Startup - by Chris Guillebeau
  • Rework - by Jason Fried David and Heinemeier Hansson

Thank you very much for you recommendations @shirazikira

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. A few recommendations to add to your reading list:

- Thomas Piketty: Capital and Ideology (a riveting account on the historical and modern treatment of capital across the globe - I am still plowing through this massive volume myself)

- Various books of Niall Ferguson who is currently at the Hoover Institution at Stanford. His books are very accessible to the general public.

Various other suggestions (more light and entertaining) include ‘Barbarians at the gate’ (a classic in the M&A world on the corporate takeover battle re RJR Nabisco, ‘A colossal failure of common sense’ on the financial turmoil following the collapse of Lehman Brothers and other financial giants during the credit crunch and ‘Liar’s poker’ written by a former trader of Salomon Brothers. Contributions of Paul Krugman may also be of interest to you to catch up on some contemporary issues.
