Dead Internet Theory Всякая всячина

The Dead Internet Theory is a conspiracy theory that claims that most interactions on the internet, especially on social media, are carried out by bots instead of real people. Sometimes the theory is named without a conspiracy theory reference to criticize the increasing emergence of poor quality, AI-generated content.

The “Dead Internet Theory” consists of two assertions. Firstly, the theory claims that the internet will be “dead” from 2016 or 2017. This means that mainly bots would interact and human interaction would only make up a fraction. Secondly, it is usually accompanied by the assumption that a secret group (or an artificial intelligence itself) is using the internet to influence public opinion via disinformation and fake news. It is unclear where or when the theory originated or who spread it. It is assumed that the theory was spread in various internet forums in 2021 at the latest as a result of the hype surrounding ChatGPT and other major language models.

What do you think about that?

Hi! well, I've heard about it and the only thing I can think about is how many bots are on X right now (former Twitter) and how insufferable it is. I can’t stand them anymore.

Perhaps it’s a distraction from the real bots posing as people.

I think 1 day the bots willtake it over from us that mean it will be just like in the movies so sad 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

What a wired theory, too much YouTube is bad. But of course AI and automatism is present in the Internet and some content is created by AI but the most is created by humen brains.

AI is just a tool, not more at the moment.

You know what maybe because of this conspiracy theory, twice i got judged as a bot (in here), and that person command me to write the sentence in photo he sent. Instead follow it, i blocked him. Ughhh very annoying 😑

Internet is used to influence people for sure, but I wouldn't necessarily say bots do this kind of stuff. As for the first aspect; I'd be more sceptical whether the person I talk with is who he/she claims they are and not a catfish. I dont really doubt if someone's a bot.

I think the only bot that is on PPG is triviabot!! And i know of course it is a 🤖 ANDDD the smartest PPG member! 😛 It can do my homework i would not mind that! 😛 😛

You can easily test it: If you have doubts ask nonsense questions which a true Person would know but a KI not.

Like: I think its interesting President Trump made a decret in 1851 against ....

Weird and aggressive comment to a simple theory. There are many ridiculous theories around, implying what you implied is ignorant and uncalled for.

I think the second point in the statement is more interesting:

"Secondly, it is usually accompanied by the assumption that a secret group (or an artificial intelligence itself) is using the internet to influence public opinion via disinformation and fake news."

That is the point where I am afraid of. But this happens every day. When Elon Musk spreads Fake-News like this one:

Millions of people beliefe in this trash.

That also has an influence on the elections. It also sowed doubt about the actual election process. For example, he claimed that there are more registered voters in Michigan than there are residents. This has been refuted several times.

So he did have an influence on the elections.

Sorry, I got off topic. But we talked about it a lot in politics lessons and observed the elections.
