Hey, don't give me a thread to write a whole novel, ahah.
I thought about it though: I got my institutional access blocked for God knows what reason. Apparently, I entered the wrong code too often, which... I didn't. It had to happen on Friday night, so I'm technically forced to rest on the weekend, which will make me late 🙂
Ok, Short summary first : Your teacher, @Yue_, is a self-centered idiot.
Long one now:
Concerning your teacher, it is difficult to take him seriously. You already have school, you learn and do different things everyday for 8h, then you have homework, but work is different. While you switch between subjects, scratch your head in different ways to think differently in maths, literature, biology... work is often more defined and you can develop some routines over time. More importantly maybe, it doesn't recquires you to be focused all the time (thanks to the routines, some "easy" tasks etc.), but learning properly does need you to focus.
Secondly, teachers often forget that their "little" homework is not the only one students get. Their colleague gave one a few hours before. Do they even communicate about this among themselves? Because it seems to be a universal problem. (In my case, I remember they were making class until the very last second, and giving assignment when it was ringing; I never wrote them, because it was in a rush, and really noisy I didn't even hear them).
Thirdly, nope, you can't "just work more efficiently" when your brain has been working all day already; that's a condescending remark at best. Concentrating has limit and efficiency too. I do research a little, so I have to learn and scratch my head as well, and let me tell you that I can absolutely NOT spend 8h straight doing a cognitively demanding work. This is extremely difficult to do. Your brain needs break, rest and periods of time for things that don't recquire as much mental effort.
Least but not last, middle/high-school are the worst years of some people's lives. If your teacher thinks it was the best years of his life, good for him, but that's his opinion only, not a universal truth. It certainyl doesn't mean that schoolwork was easy either. I won't say that the profesionnal world is all beautiful, because it sure isn't, you can have financial pressure, deal with annoying customers in some fields, a lot of stress sometimes, but just because your teacher chose to stay at school his whole life doesn't mean his perspective on working life is anything right.
As for a counter example, highschool was a hell for me; the noise, the travel from home to school, the crowd, the way I was 1 class away (literally in the other room) from the table and saw nothing in some classes, some unbearable classmates and teachers etc. literally participated to make me quit back then.
