~~~ Sweet Dance with a Devil ~~~
Thanks to Etienne, we can talk to different people from different cultures, personalities and opinions here.
I want to know different ideas about "how to react to someone who insults us". They may be rude people without appropriate manner or may be good people with good opinions who don't know how to communicate and express their idea properly.
Or maybe it is the devil inside all of us who wants to win at any cost?
And is this "devil" the one that is called Ego?
Is Devil an evil being who was cast out from God’s presence and seeks to lead human beings astray? Or is it a CONCEPT that exists within all of us, as part of our identity and individuality?
Should we fight the Devil within, or can we diminish its power and render it ineffective through a sweet dance of Love?
Should we fight against those who do us harm, or should we respond to them with Love?
Is the Devil within those who hurt us, or the love within those who are kind to us, a reflection of ourselves?
How should we deal with this devil inside us? And how can we improve and scatter the Love within us to dance with a devil with greater peace and patience?
🍂
Some may say or act something stupid, something gross or unforgiveable. Something human. Nobody should get insulted with a single word quite like humanity. You can't really give offense unless someone takes it. If you don't take it, sooner or later you're no more the target. I think that none of us claims to become absolute good or absolute evil. At this point, I always appreciated the Cherokee story of two wolves:
"An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life: “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. ”It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “If you feed them right, they both win. You see, if I only choose to feed the white wolf, the black one will be hiding around every corner waiting for me to become distracted or weak and jump to get the attention he craves. He will always be angry and always fighting the white wolf. But if I acknowledge him, he is happy and the white wolf is happy and we all win. For the black wolf has many qualities – tenacity, courage, fearlessness, strong-willed and great strategic thinking – that I have need of at times and that the white wolf lacks. But the white wolf has compassion, caring, strength and the ability to recognize what is in the best interest of all.
“You see, son, the white wolf needs the black wolf at his side. To feed only one would starve the other and they will become uncontrollable. To feed and care for both means they will serve you well and do nothing that is not a part of something greater, something good, something of life. Feed them both and there will be no more internal struggle for your attention. And when there is no battle inside, you can listen to the voices of deeper knowing that will guide you in choosing what is right in every circumstance. Peace, my son, is the Cherokee mission in life. A man or a woman who has peace inside has everything. A man or a woman who is pulled apart by the war inside him or her has nothing. “How you choose to interact with the opposing forces within you will determine your life. Starve one or the other or guide them both.”
For now just a short reply, Ayda
I work at a physiotherapy practise. Our bosses told us to always remember
that if there is a patient who insults us, is angry, impatient...
that they come to us because they need help, are hurt... not only physically,
they might be lost...
They are in stress and might not be able to communicate in an appropriate way.
We listen to them, give them some space instead of argueing.
Most of them notice that we have a little more time for them...
and when they experience some relief after we treated them they
appear to be a completely different person.
But the bosses also stand behind us when this manner of a patient persists.
When nothing helps the patient is free to find another practise.
@diogenes_cask Thank you for your opinion and the interesting story.
I agree on accepting both wolves which leads to peace and I think this acceptance is the love with give to both.
@H_E_A_R_T Thank you for your post dear Christine. Your job is a very good example and context for such topic. You do a very important job in nowadays' societies full of physical, mental and "emotional" illnesses. And what you said reminds me of a statement in the movie "peaceful warrior":
"Those who are hard to love are the ones who need to be loved the most."
This is bit difficult topic and i didnt know yesterday if i wanted to react but now i think it is maybe good to write. I think is BIGGG difference if smb insults u and it is online ORRR in real life. Bc if it is online i get angry if it is not fair and then i say smt about it or block that person. But mostly if smb insults me it is not online but in real life and that is very different and also why i did not want to write at first when i saw this forum but i think others have it too so that is why i want to tell abt it.
From all insults i get i think maybe 90-95% are bc of my race and then people make for example jokes to u or that u hear them making insulting jokes when they talk with each other or if for example u walk or bike then they call racial things after u. That happens a LOTTT and i think most people dont believe if i say it is at least like several times in the week but that is really the case. Sometimes just silly jokes or more serious from insults and i know it is super weak but i dont argue abt it bc if for example it is a group that is hanging somewhere and i am on my bike and u stop and argue it is only a MUCH bigger problem and even maybe dangerous and stupid. So i just pretend that i dont hear it and bike like normal.
And in other cases if people insult but like they behave super agressive i always block in my head and then i just wait until they stop and u can go away. But in that case i dont walk away bc then they know u hear them and if u walk away they can maybe get more angry so i just freeze and then just wait when they are stopping.
I know that a LOTTT of people say that u have to be stronger and that u must also defend urself or say smt about it but i think then maybe u get MOREEE problems or that they can get super agressive or with a group it is even more dangerous and it is better to walk away or maybe to wait until they finish so they dont get even more angry. 🙄🙄🤐🤐
Welcome -- to the Dance
................ . . . ...... . ... . ... . .......... . . .. . . ........... . .. .... .... .. ..... . . . .. .. .. . . . . ........
A fine example to illustrate this dance is that of women.
Women have been, and continue to be, demonised.
Men fear the power of women. Their natural strength
is curtailed in almost every area of life, and as long as
this remains the case, our planet is doomed.
Women, on the other hand, do a great deal to ensure that men
remain rather impotent. Whether unconsciously or consciously,
they stifle men or exert control over them. In the few moments
when a partner placed control in my hands, I was granted a
glimpse.
As almost all my teachers in this incarnation were women,
a world view has developed for me that lies outside the
socially accepted framework.
There may also be evil that comes into being/birth… but that
is not the rule. The devil, too, is subject to rules and laws, and
almost always, men in particular, invite him in.
As human beings, we cannot avoid making choices, and the
DANCE is balanced and sweet when all the aspects within us
are allowed to unfold without any control. That is the balance
we truly seek!
A life, uncontrolled, without a needy personality or ego.
A silent observer…
@Yue_ Dear yue, your post made me think and feel deeply sad because of the stupidity that still dominates humanity in many people. Also, I got happy for you and the wise approach you have chosen agaisnt the devil in such people. You want to avoid an argument, but I think it is an unintentional indirect way of giving love to their devil. As "diogenes" said, you cannot be offended as long as you do not take the insult!
The fact that you control yourself to not react to a bunch of people with clear ethical and phychological issues, indicates your inner Strenght.
I have read some of your posts before and I have seen how you support those who need help. Some day the warrior inside you will wake up and let noby hurt you and your feelings.
Dear Michael,
It is a great honor to have your precious post on this forum, and Thank You for making here more beautiful by one of your amazing art-works. This painting is talking to us and “clearly” presenting the sweet dance with a devil…
Yes, what you said about women and men are one of sad issues (symptoms, as you say) in our world. And what I grasp is that the reason people hurt each other is that they intentionally or unintentionally ignore the devil within. We, people, insult or hurt others, because we do not pay attention to ourselves and do not “know” and “see” our hidden parts without a mask, either the darks parts or the bright ones. (I think the latter can help very much, too).
May all of human beings live the life, “uncontrolled, without a needy personality or ego”.
Long Live the silent observers…
THANK YOU
Thank u very much for what u wrote @Dreamofpeace!!! 🤗🥰🙏 I know what @diogenes_cask said is true that for example if somebody insults u and then u dont care about it at all then it does not hurt u. My grandmom told abt the Buddha and when he was attacked by demons then they shoot arrows. BUTTTTT the arrows became flowers so it did not hurt him. I also wrote a forum abt it here one time bc there were fights and i did not know what to write to stop it so i just said that but i cant find the forum anymore. 🙄🙄 But that is also super difficult bc they really make u feel super low and stressed if they say racial things and u cant do much that it still hurts even if that is stupid and that u should not care at all.
With friends it is less difficult to help them bc u know that u are not alone and then u can help but if it is like physical and people insult u when it is in real life it is just different and feels LOTTTT more like big threat and in my country most people dont do much bc they say that they are just jokes or u should just be more tough and that u have thicker skin so u must learn to handle that. So nobody really says much about it to be honest and u know that so that is why i try not to make big scene and just go away from it unless they are in ur face and u have to wait until they stop.
But u and also @diogenes_cask are right i think but that is not really easy to feel that way when u are super stressed. 😬😬😬😵‍💫😵‍💫
You are right. It is not fair to be forced to tolerate unethical behaviours, especially when you are a nice person who respects everyone. Unfortunately, nowadays societies are approaching more and more to inhumanity instead of humanity. Everybody knows making fun of somebody's race, appearance, disability, etc. in an insult that would hurt their feelings, but many still do it. What should it be called?
And as you said, many others think it is not insulting to laugh at people or have disrespectful attitude towards them. Following ethical codes is mandatory in organisations, but not in societies.
This is a cultural gap, too. It some countries such behaviours are not accepted and nobody tells you that you should be strong so that stupid people who were not raised properly can be comfortable to bother you!
Anyway, as @Lir_Elhan always says, our world is changing for better and kind caring people wouldn't suffer more as a result of collective awareness and "maturity".
In the meanwhile, what nice people like you can do is focusing on their own precious "being" and the inner value and strength that they are aware of yet. The devil in people can feel the weakness inside its "target" and get courage to "attack". I used the terms "target" and "attack" because people who insult you really need someone to take out their inner anger and reveal their true weakness to. It is their unconscious mind that tells them to vent their misery on others, and they follow it unintentionally.
So, I suggest that next time when you are in such situation, instead of getting stressed, look within yourself and be happy that you are not miserable and full of inner pain and resentment, like they are!
I think it is true what u write and in some countries it is really not like that i think. So perhaps South Korea and Japan are countries that people are more respectful. In China that depends bc it is really weird but even if im with family in Nanjing then OTHER people if u are in Nanjing or Shanghai can also treat u weird bc Dutch people often think im Chinese but Chinese people then think i am only westerner and not enough really Chinese. So it is i think in most places in world and sometimes more or sometimes less.
Throughout history, whenever a prophet or messenger asked people to rethink their lives and beliefs, most of them rejected him and even condemned him as being against God, simply because they were slaves to their own inner devils.
The same happened to spiritual people who were the hands of God, trying to help others emerge from darkness. They encountered the same reaction from these people's inner devils.
And the most beautiful thing is that despite all these injustices, both the messengers and the spiritual people remained patient, calm, and caring toward ALL human beings, with beautiful smiles on their faces.
One birthday in the past....
"Grace... it is a rare thing to obtain...
One cannot gather it like a fruit from a tree,
One has to become worthy of it.
Once received, one has to learn to hold it sustain it and watch over it like a precious jewl.
Grace could be lost in an unguarded moment stolen by the demon of doubt..."
