“In the beginning there was nothing; there was the Word, and the Word was God.”
But how could the “Word” exist with no tongue to speak it and no “mind” to know it?
God was One, and besides God there was nothing.
And with only “nonexistence,” how can there be “existence”?
God existed, and with Him was nothingness,
and nothingness had no ears.
There are words that exist to be spoken;
if there were no ears, we would not utter them.
And there are words that exist not to be spoken;
words that never bow their heads to the banality of being uttered.
These are the wondrous, beautiful, and divine words.
Every person's transcendent wealth is measured by the words they keep unspoken—
impatient, agonizing words,
like restless tongues of fire,
each of whose words holds an explosion captive;
words that are fragments of a human being’s very existence...
They are forever in search of their listener.
If they find one, they themselves are found,
and they come to rest in the depths of that person’s conscience.
But if they do not find their listener, they are not.
And if they lose that listener, they set the soul ablaze from within and continually kindle terrifying fires of torment.
And God had many words that were not to be spoken,
surging within the infinity of His heart and making Him restless.
And how could nothingness ever be His listener?"
