🙄 Prejudices: right or wrong? 😬

Hiii everybody!!! 🙋‍♀️😊 I really wanted to make this forum and im curious what everybody thinks about it. So after we had this topic in society class in school i ALSO want to discuss it here and it is about prejudices. I was not sure if it was prejudice or bias and if it means the same!!! But i chatted with @Dracula and @Paulinahvk and i choose prejudice but also that i describe what i mean. 🙂

With prejudice i mean like that u have already thoughts about somebody because of for example race or gender or religion or maybe also because somebody is old or young or looks in certain ways or has tattoos or piercings or is from one country that is famous for things in good or bad ways or ANYTHING that people already think to know a LOTTT about that person and maybe they dont even KNOW that person. 💁‍♂️🤷‍♀️🤦

For example: if somebody has tattoos that people are afraid of that person or because somebody is Asian that they think you eat EVERYTHING or because you are young that you are dumb or super naive and dont know anything. 🙄🙄🤐😕 And another example is the MANOSPHERE and i googled online and this is what it says about the meaning:

And abt Manosphere in our school it is NOTTT like in others that for example guys dont want to have a teacher that is female or AT LEAST they dont say that. BUTTT there are a lot of jokes and u dont know if they just joke or saw a reel or really believe things of influencers and i think that is actually scary. 1. People think I can do everything, even though I’ve had a brain hemorrhage, because on the outside nothing is visible - but if I shave my head, there is a very clear visible mark/scar that shows what you’ve been through. I spend 7 years in rehabilitation. And there are a lot of things I can’t do anymore.

2. I’m so done with it. I explain things three times, and if they still don’t get it, they can piss off.

3. I think the world has gone bonkers. No, just like feminism it changes nothing. People only care about themselves. That’s my opinion. In my ICT (education) at school, there were 77 boys and 3 girls. So we (girls) had to stand up for ourselves. Nowadays they make a problem, *fart*, out of everything. Can you see my fart in the distance?

I'm not sure, I get contradictory feedbacks... Some people find me to be an evil dork, unfunny, boring, incompetent, unreliable and to be avoided, whereas some other people think the opposite.

It really depends on the kind of people I face and how I contradict them at some point, ahah

For prejudice, I'm not sure, but for stereotypes/clichés, there is no smoke without fire. I generally tend to play with them and embrace prejudices/stereotypes fully because I believe it's the only way you can (gradually) fix them with counter examples.

Nothing much. I believe that misoginy always has existed, but things like manosphere is structured mostly as a response to some forms of extreme feminisms pushing their agenda "too far" for a portion of the men who don't see it as fair anymore, but only as disadvantageous.

It's a common problem I see with those neologisms based on English that seems to be rooted in US ideologies for a big part. They see a real issues, they make it bigger than it is, spread it in a caricatural way, and only trigger more poralization because they have prejudices, but no desire to admit it's prejudice and eventually fix them if it's not fully real.

What I see is just extremism creates response with opposite extremism because of alienation; ridicule promotes polarization and escalation, and blindly using those prejudices/clichés with no regards for the truth only pushes for more resentment and extremism.

It's actually a funny example on how prejudices can lead to more problems if you refuse to acknowledge them and fix them if they are too caricatural (both men falling into Tate-kind of manosphere, and women falling for the misandry-kind of feminism). As far as I know, manosphere is just like a big chunk of different subcultures, like feminism can eventually be perceived. It has incels, misogynists and very annoying people, like some feminist groups, and it also has groups for giving fathers more rights, counterbalance things were men might feel discriminated etc.

Just like feminism, I guess i could agree with some parts the manosphere is about, but would be equally repelled by the picture we make of it on the internet. I'm not very interested in playing boys vs girls like in the time. I love women and I'd rather play with them than against them (⸝⸝๑﹏๑⸝⸝)

4️⃣ Do you think there are differences between men and women for what they must do and how they are?

Yes, they are some differences, but fundamentally it's tendencies that drive towards "gender roles", rather than deterministic obligations. Women being generally better at socializing and caring, yet physically weaker than men doesn't mean they should all be caring about children and others. If one wants to be a rally pilot or a builder, good for her and let her try.
Similarly, if a man wantn to be a nurse or take care of children, then let him try.

5️⃣ Do you think that there will ever be NO prejudices anymore?

Ahahah, no. Our brain works with shortcuts; prejudices/stereotypes are one of them and I'd argue that if it's so prevalent, then it's most likely evolutionnary beneficial.

As someone living in America, the life I live is incredibly blessed, extraordinarily privileged beyond measure compared to the rest of the world. That fact makes it hard to care about any! But alright. The most common one I've noticed is prejudice against my faith in Jesus Christ. There is a sort of automatic disdain for Christians, especially in the school system ‐ where all religions are welcome and celebrated ‐ except the one that founded our country. Someone pointed out recently that you find people of all faiths, Evolutionists, Muslims, Buddhists...each one taught by believers of their religion. Yet you'd be hard‐pressed to find a Christian teaching about Christianity!

It is expected. As Jesus said shortly before He was crucified:

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you." ‐ John 15:18

I think they are an error in judgement that stems from hate and selfishness. I correct only those willing to listen and who are not actively acting on their prejudice in a life‐threatening way. None at all. The very definition of prejudice prevents me from believing it is rational or right at all. I can say that some biases can be right, but no prejudice is formed rightly.

I think "aggressive online communities" are only as dangerous as the user allows it to be. Because of the local folks around me that I meet, I am not convinced internet culture is as popular as they want it to be.

I wouldn't use the term "must", per say. Rather biological men and women have different capabilities that complement each other! That's why the Olympics were such a mess when they added biological males to biological women's sports. They left the natural woman in the dust😂

🌹 @Paulinahvk thank u very much too for writing and i wanted to say that u are very strond that after 7 years that u recover that u have done that!!! So EVEN if u cant do everything, i think that u are super strong and im not sure if i would be able to do that like what u did.

🌸 I also think that prejudices against people with disabilities is wrong like @QueenOfRaccoons said but i think still it happens often. Maybe not that people always SAY it but u can just KNOW it how they do. I also have that with prejudices about race or other things like age and maybe they dont say it to you directly still u know that they have the prejudices. And i think that also makes it MORE difficult to deal with it if tey dont even say it directly.

🥇 @Lianshen what u wrote made me unsure if i should write prejudice or bias or stereotype and im not sure if there is big difference between a prejudice and stereotype because in both the cases u think in a way about somebody right? And that way may be wrong or not, but u think that way even before u know the person so maybe it is also a little bit the same?? 🙄🙄 I am not sure because maybe i am also wrong about it. I think biases and profiling are different than unfounded prejudice. For example, if I refuse to eat salads at food stands because I consistently get poisoned, that is somewhat of a reasonable bias. And if an officer pulls over a green van because it matched the description of a criminal suspect's vehicle, that too is reasonable. From my understanding, prejudice is having judgement without cause ‐ meaning I just hate salad without ever trying it, or an officer pulls over green vans without any prior reason or knowledge.

I thought the meaning was the SAMEE but i think NOW it depends on if something has happened that u have the bias or if not then it is a prejudice. But with stereotypes like @Lianshen said is that normally a bias or prejudice? Or maybe it just depends but im not sure. 🙄🙄🙄

2. I think it's wrong, sometimes even if my institution tells me one thing I still give people a chance, because you never knowwww, and I also try to right people sometimes about the prejudices, but i don't argue much.

3. Just by the very meaning of that word, I hate it. And it's absolutely dangerous, it doesn't change a person, it just offers an excuse for those who believe it's a good thing.
