Prayer

I am also not religious, but my family has a way of "praying" to hope something will go well, such as getting a car started we've got for sale: we put a candle on the table. And we also do that for others, such as people who land in jail for no reason.

I agree with @Qleqk (a good friend of mine), that I don't really have the impression someones listening to the praying, unless your talking about the ghost on our farm of course. Because I see no evidense why god ore bible might be trough and no fantasy, I am not religious.

I had the same doubts at your age, too. They lasted for some years...until...well, I really discovered God. 🙂

Recommendation: 5 ways to God by Thomas Aquinas. This is a logical approach to truth/ the principe of God.

Sorry, but I'm reading Billy Connoly now. Besides, I'm not really the person who enjoy such serious books. "5 ways to God" doesn't sound like it contains any humor

Oh, it is not meant as a book recommendation. I`ll give you a very short summary: Everything that exists here around has an origin. We have parents, the animals have parents and so on. Everything has an origin. So, there must logically be sth without origin which is the origin of everything. This is what we usually call "God". It is simply logic. This is kind of an "evidence" for the existence of God.

I have a good sense of humour, too, and to be honest, I really like to read cartoons and children books, too. Saint biographies sometimes contain good sense of humour, too. Maybe Saint Giovanni Bosco, Philip Neri...Wilhelm Hünermann writes very nice.

You kept interests in God all those years, didn't you?

Yes, increasing interest. It is like once you caught fire, this fire in your heart (for God) will increase continuously. Well, I´ll give a little testimony. You know, I went through many doubts during my youth, really hard doubts, if God exists at all, and concerning the doctrine of the Church. But - always, when looking closer, asking seriously and honestly, I realized that it is the truth.

Here's a though: All these millions of people all over the world praying... yet the world is a hellhole and human misery is the game and always was.

Doesn't seem like anyone is listening, does it?

"It seems."...But I know that God listens, but respects the freedom of those who don't want to follow a path to a better life.
For me, praying is being with God, who loves me immensely... praying is communicating with God... prayer is a personal relationship... perhaps this world still exists because there are still some who pray. I apologize, I only speak Italian and I used the translator.

All good.

Sono i benvenuti e anche l'italiano non è un problema 🙂 Sono completamente d'accordo con lei. 🙂

As a muslim I pray 5 times a day, and it makes me feel connected to God 🙂 if I don't pray, I feel something is missing and I don't feel good !

Without prayer, the soul is like a body without food and water, right? Catholics have similar "routine" prayers, the Liturgy of the Hours and the Angelus Prayer. The first is practiced in monasteries, the second a prayer which is said 3 times a day when the bells of the Church are ringing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZat1VvqXcM

The Annunciation by the Angel to Mary is also mentioned in the Quran and the words are almost precisely the same like in the "Ave Maria". https://www.youtube.com/shorts/y-M0SujliV8

I am curious: as a muslim, do you also ask the blessed Virgin for intercession? I heard that some do, some don´t.

Thank you for your post. 🙂 To make sure, I am convinced there is only one truth - logically, there can only be one true religion (the Catholic faith).

But I wanted to kind of make a "bridge" to the other religions, because there are at least some similarities.

Idem, non dubito. Ma assolutamente credo nel rispetto e nell'amore che Gesù ci ha dato esempio da seguire... Sembra impossibile.... Ma penso che con gli amici in Gesù si possa fare... Amore incondizionato

I love the prayer songs - ' 10,000 reasons' , 'Shepherd of my soul' and ' As the deer'.

That sounds Christian, too, right? 🙂 Which confession do you belong to?

I also love Catholic songs, above all Gregorian Chant, e.g. Missa de Angelis. But there are also various classical hymns that I appreciate, both for voice solo and choir. "Ave Verum Corpus" by Mozart for choir for example.

Do you prefer to listen or sing the prayer songs yourself?

Sorry! But I am not a Christian. I embrace Hinduism but believe in all religions. I study in a convent school that's why I know about these songs. And I do love singing these prayers myself. They bring utter solace when I feel low or lonely.

No worries, you´re welcome. Great that you appreciate and sing those prayers nonetheless. 🙂

I totally agree with you, the prayer is like food for our souls.

As muslims we believe and love in Jesus, marry, Moses and all prophets sent by God, we also believe in Mary the Virgin and there is a dedicated chapter in Quran named after her ( Surah Maryam ) 🙂 , but when it comes to intercession and prayers we pray only to God 🙂

Surah al Ikhlas - a Chapter from the Quran 🙂

Thanks for your answer. 🙂 I have heard that in Ephesus thousands of muslims go the the house of Mary and pray there, too 🙂 But probably there are differences within islam.

As Catholics, we believe in the “communion of saints.” This refers to the enduring communion of all baptized persons beyond death. We can ask the living and the ‘good’ deceased, especially the saints and prophets, to put in a “good word” for us towards God. This is intercession. Sure, only God can do miracles and He is the origin of all graces, but He likes us to pray for all graces. And not only for us, but also for others. So, if it is possible to pray for others, why shouldn´t it be possible to ask others to pray for me? It is the same.

There are thousands of documented examples of the effectiveness of the principle of intercession. Perhaps the most famous is St. Anthony for lost things. He always helps within seconds, it´s really stunning!

It took my brother ab 4 days to get our ttuck and tractor started. So my brother and father drove off to get hay, cause itnbecame really urgent: had nearly nothing left. When they were between As Nogais and Becerreà, the motor made some weird sounds and broke down. They returned by taxi. We did not know what to do, trying to find solutions: the only vehicle we got left is a tractor wich is not legal on the road. But: we have a Dutch friend who lives ab 1 hour from here and he drives a 4x4 Toyota Hilux, so we asked him if he would mind loading up his 4x4 with hay, and bring it to us. No, he did not mind. Today he came to us, with 16 packages of hay (usually we buy 72). After we loaded off his car, he asked us if he should pick up more: yessss pleeeaaaseee!!!!!!!! So after he went to town with my father to buy some stuff, and to orginise a tow truck to deliver the broken down van at our home, we hang one of our trailers after the frie ds vehicle. He'll return wednesday with the trailer loaded up with hay. So friendly! Sometimes angles just fall down from heaven 🙏

That´s really a very nice experience! I am glad you received help. 🙂

By the way, to all here around: feel free to also share prayer intentions (you may also message them in private to me). We can pray for each other. 🙂

Sorry, but I actually don't understand how you can have a favorite prayer.

Hmm...? Did I say such? I really like the rosary, the liturgy of the Holy Sacrifice of Mass...I love many prayers and some in particular. It is like a favourite song, maybe.

what I mean is: you pray, your friends pray, your family prays...... is one of them a favorite prayer? ore do you mean by praying a term of praying?

Oh, I see. "Prayer" is meant as a "text", a "message" to God. not the person who prays.

I don´t prefer a special person to pray for me, like only one friend or sth. Everybody can pray and this is great!

I just like some types of prayers, like the liturgy or the rosary prayer in particular.

Okay, thank you, now it's clear 🙂

You´re welcome. My English is surely not perfect as a German native.

Leaving the forum for a while. God bless.
