Interview with @Sabri_KC 25.11.2024

Hello Sabri!! Thank you that I can interview you for the forum!! 🙏🙏😊 I have 20 questions but i will divide them in 4 parts. If you dont like to answer a question that is not a problem of course!!! 😛 Thank you very much!! 😇😇

First of all, thank you Yue for interviewing me. Hello to all the nice people that are Penpal Gate members !

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ PART I

1: Who do you live with now in your house and in what city do you live? Is your hometown nice and what is the best place to see or thing to do if we all come to visit you? 😛

I live with my Parents and my siblings in a house not so far away from Paris. I love my hometown, as I was born there, and grew up there. I have a very special bound with my city. There are a lot of things to do ! But my favorite place in my city is the city center park. It's close to my high school, and I used to go there very often with my high school friends before going to university. From time to time I go back there to think back to this sweet time! If one day you pass by my city, come and have a look! We could buy some pastries and sit on a bench to chat 😉

2: Do you have a very nice relationship with your parents? And are you close to your brothers and sisters if you have them? Do you have a favourite person in your whole family?

Of course ! I do have an excellent relationship with my parents, I feel I’ll never be thankful enough to them. They have done so much to me, they helped me, they raised me, they love me… And I dearly love them to bits ! Sometimes I even cry for all the things they did to help me... It's a really deep relationship, and I pray Allah that they keep them always glad and happy.

I’m also close to my siblings as well. I knew them since their birth, and we all grew up together, we have so much core memories, games to play and things to say. Sometimes we talk as if we didn’t meet each other for years haha ! I dearly love all my family members.

3: What is your study or work? And do you like it? And how was your time in high school? Do you still have friends from high school?

I study law in the University. At first, I wanted to do something related to languages or geography, but honestly, there were not any suitable jobs that I liked. So I decided to study law. Why ? Because I mixes up a little of all the subjects I like ! Moreover in high school, I was even elected many times as my class representative, and I realized I liked providing services to people and feeling useful 🙂

My time in high school was amazing.

High school in France has three years : from 10th grade to 12th grade (before that it's middle school). During high school, I felt more autonomous, more included and more integrated. I mean, it doesn't mean that I didn't feel integrated before ! On the contrary ! 😃 But people in high school become mature, more responsible, they grow up, they abandon most of their bad habits, and they take the time to appreciate everyone. In my tenth grade, during covid, I felt that all my classmates including me, built a solidarity relation between us, as we all werein the same struggle between quarantine days and school. And during my last years of high school, my relation with my high school friends would grow only bigger and better. I had an incredible time in high school even despite academic pressure. And I think it's still one of the best periods of my life 😁 Since I left high school, I became a little nostalgic, but I kept contact with my closest High school friends ! And I do sometimes pass next to my high school and say hello !

4: You know a LOT about countries and anthems and flags!! What do you like the most about them?

That's right ! I know all the countries of the world, all of their flags, most of their capital cities as well, and their anthems !I do listen as well to regional anthems, some pretty beautiful folk or patriotic songs from all over the world ! Actually, I'd say that the anthem that triggered my "obsession" was Kazakhstan. It's a really beautiful anthem.

What I like about anthems is their melodies. Some of them have really beautiful composed lyrics, sometimes you could really compare it to classic music. The flags carry a really strong symbolism. It represents a people, a region, a country, and I think it's pretty beautiful to see people united around a flag and singing a specific anthem telling the story of their heritage, their country... It's actually pretty deep !

5: What is your secret talent and skill that nobody on PPG knows about yet? 😛 What skill would you like to have in the future that you cant do now?

Well, still related to geography, I can draw a map or a World map by memory ! I do remember most of the World map and could pretty nicely make one. Of course it won't be extremely detailed, but still better than nothing ! 😁

As a skill that I would like to have in the future, by the will of God, would be... Running fast ! I do run, but my parents told me that as a child I would run so fast that people would struggle catching me ! Why not catching up the speed I lost and become again the fast runner I used to be ?

Anyways, I thank Allah for what I'm already able to do.

Great Sabri 👍 👍 👍 👍 🏆 🥇 🥇 🥇 🥇 🥇 🥇 🥇 🥇

Thank you very much again for the first part of the interview @Sabri_KC!! 🙏🙏 I like that you really took time to write very nice answers. 🙂 But i also have a question about answer 3: is your university in Paris or in your hometown? Do you go there with a bike or car? Because my mom says in Paris you have a lot of traffic in the vacation that you get super stuck. And maybe also every day it is like that? 🙄🙄

And about your answer 4: do you like the flags and the anthems of France and Algeria? Or do you want to make them different? 🙂

My university is in Paris the City. And in the city there is a lot of traffic… A lot ! Especially on the surrounding highways, where sometimes a simple accident can ruin everything, and then you arrive late ! If you go to Paris, you should take the public transports, like the subway or trains. It’s the best to navigate through Paris. 🙂

And about your answer 4: do you like the flags and the anthems of France and Algeria? Or do you want to make them different? 🙂

Of course I do ! These are my two home countries, and both have very powerful anthems. 😄 What would France become without La Marseillaise, or Algeria without Qassaman ? The two anthems carry an extremely strong history and principles that wouldn’t be really changeable for me. 🙂

Also, it’s with pleasure that I answer your questions ! Thanks again for this interview ! 🙂

Thank you very much @Sabri_KC!! 🙂 Do you want to live in Paris later because you have not so much traffic and it is easier if you study or work in Paris. 😊😊

I try to make the second part of the interview this evening when I'm home again!! 😛

My pleasure ! I don’t think I’d like living in Paris. It’s sure there are a lot of things to do there, but it’s still very noisy, crowded, and really expensive, more than anywhere in France. (and sometimes quite dirty not gonna lie…) I prefer staying in the suburbs, at least I’d feel calmer and it would be less expensive.

You are interested in countries and all their stuff (anthems, main cities etc.) but how come you interested int his?

When I was 5 years old, my parents began to initiate me to countries, their capital cities and their flags. They even bought me a world map. At the beginning I knew the most known countries, and then I ended up enjoying the diversity of countries, and the more I grew up, the more I’d interest myself into the different domains of countries, until I reached such a level today ! 😊

I think Paris is very beautiful what we saw but also i think super expensive!! And if you live little bit away it is not so super busy i understand what you mean with that. 🙂

And you already have the questions of the next part of your interview!! But only when you have time to answer them of course!! 😛 😛

If you would live in Algeria, what do you think is the biggest change for you? What would you miss from French way of life and what would you like from Algerian life?

Living in another country always means changing your way of life. And France and Algeria are two really different countries, in various dimensions, whether it be climate, mentality, food, etc.

First of all, the climate. It seems that it's a pretty trivial element, but in Algeria, the weather is hotter than France, as it has a Mediterranean climate on the coast, and it gets more Arid the more you go South. Obviously, when you get used to a certain weather for several years, at the slightest change it's easier to get sick, fortunately it's usually for a short period of time, thus why people don't tend to think much about it. Fun fact = I once catched a sunburn and a fever because I went out in the middle of the afternoon with 40°C outside ! 🥵😂😂

But the most important thing when you move to a new country for a long period of time is of course : the mentality of the locals.

You see, Yue, I know that you yourself come from a dual culture background, you can ask your parents too (if they were born in China) I'm sure that when they moved to the new country, they had to adapt not only to the new way of life in general, but also to the new culture. My Parents did the same when coming to France.

Anyway, all the time, different countries all have a different mentality. Different ways of thinking, communicating or sharing with people, and different standards that can sometimes be very different from the country where you have lived until then. So, when you come to this new country, you have to accept this new mentality to get along with people, and avoid conflicts.

But when you have lived in the same country all your life, it is necessarily complicated to adapt to the new mentality of the people, especially when you do not understand why such a thing is well seen, why such a thing is badly seen, etc. I personally think that if I could go back to live in Algeria, I would not have too much difficulty integrating into the mentality of the Algerians because I have already understood it a little bit throughout my life when I went there on vacation. But I am sure that I still have to understand, because a total immersion is never the same thing as a few months of living.

If there is something I would miss in France, I think it would be my hometown where I would have lived all my youth. But also French food 😂😂 because even if some foods are present in Algeria in shopping centers or bakeries (chocolate, cheese, croissants), it doesn't have the same taste as in France ! And I guess I'll miss that 😂

What are the most beautiful places in Algeria to visit and why? And are they safe?

That's a good question ! There are actually a lot of beautiful places to visit in Algeria ! I wish Algeria developped tourism more like Morocco or Tunisia did, because Algeria tends to be an underrated country in terms of touristic places to visit. Fortunately Algeria slowly opens itself to the world of tourism 😉

I think that visiting Algeria as a foreigner, is getting out the beaten track, and instead of choosing overcrowded destinations, choosing something calmer, and that has its charm. Algeria has such a Mediterranean charm that can't be found anywhere else. It's a mix of the different cultures that Algeria acquired throughout its history, it's like a color palette. Everywhere you go, there's someting beautiful and special to see among the other places.

There are so much nice places to visit in Algeria, that I can't fit them all here or it would be soo long for this interview, but I might make something on the Penpal Gate University Forum.

Anyways, I'll give some examples of nice places in Algeria.

- Algiers, the capital city, is the major city in Algeria, where a lot of historical events and periods happened.

- the city of Oran, the second largest city in Algeria.

- the City of Constantine, one of the Oldest of Algeria

- Kabylia, a Region in the East of Algiers, home of the Kabyle Amazigh people.

- The Roman ruins of Tipaza (First Photo), Timgad (Second Photo) and Djemila (Third Photo). These are the major ones, there are much more Roman ruins to visit!

- Now we head to the Center of Algeria, to the city of Ghardaïa, home of the Mozabite Amazigh people.

- the City of Ouargla is probably the last stop before entering the deep desert of Algeria. It's also the only city in the Sahara Desert that has a Tramway... That actually surprised me when I first heard it 😮

- the Cultural Park of Tassili N'Ajjer. Recently, some places on the Planet Mars were named after this Cultural Park, in reference to the shapes of the massifs. There are cave paintings that date back to thousands of years and prehistory !

- the Province of Djanet, in the deep southeast of Algeria, near the border of Libya and Niger. A lot of people go Camping there to see the stars or to relieve themselves in the calm of the desert, but also to discover the Ancient Lost City of Sefar, (Third Photo) about which many frightening legends are told.

- Tamanrasset, the Biggest City in the South of Algeria. The South of Algeria is also home of the Tuareg Amazigh people.

That's it, I hope you enjoyed those nice photos 🙂

Most of these areas in the north are safe, but when you enter the Desert (Ghardaïa), usually for foreigners the presence of a guide is necessary (or even mandatory) for safety purposes. The Algerian desert is considered a protected area (Some tourists may damage very ancient remains), and it is sometimes dangerous if you venture there alone (getting lost, etc).

But overall everyone can enjoy a nice stay in Algeria 🙂

What do you eat for lunch at the university? Do you bring food from home or do you eat dishes from the University restaurant? And do you prefer bread or hot meals for lunch?

When I eat at the university, it depends ! You are free to bring food from home, or to eat at the University restaurant, or even buy something in any shop and come back at the university to eat. You can also eat at any surrounding restaurant and come back again. Anyway you are autonomous. I prefer prepared or hot meals from the University restaurant, because they of course have balanced foods like vegetables or proteins. Bread is only used as an accompaniment. If it is eaten alone it is also good, but it makes you fat, and we avoid taking too many calories. Sometimes I like changing a little and buy something to eat somewhere else.

What sports have you done and would you like to do ever? And can you sing and dance any sort (hiphop, ballet, street dance, ballroom, latin or anything)? If not would you like to learn to play music or dance?

Speaking about sports, I've done karate for a short time when I was 8-9 years old. At the beginning I was doing quite well, but it didn't go well because I didn't dare knock people, and my hits were too soft. When I hit someone my master would tell me that I had hurt the person I was fighting. So I restricted myself even more... Plus the people in my group had adopted a strange distrust and hostility towards me for no reason. Then we moved home away and I stopped. I guess karate wasn't for me 😅

However, overtime I managed to find my own tastes 😃 I like swimming, cycling, and Badminton. Those are probably the sports I enjoy the most. Swimming is also pretty relaxing when I'm alone lying on the water, and just emptying my mind. Cycling is a bit like driving, and I like outdoing myself by going far. And badminton is fun, especially when you have to keep to run to avoid the badminton shuttlecock entering your court 🙂

I'm not a professional dancer 😂 but I guess I can dance to Algerian songs quite well like any average Arab can do 😂. Though the most aged people overtime dance much better than the younger generations !

Do you want to have children later when you are married and if yes how many? Does it matter if it is a girl or a boy or not? And would you give French names or Algerian names?

I guess I would. 🙂

Sometimes it happened that I didn't want it, because I was "traumatized" (not literally 😂) by my younger siblings who always run around without stopping, sometimes it's too much !!! 😂😂

But in reality I would love to have children, have a cute baby, raise him, teach him, create lovely bonds as my parents did to me and my siblings 🙂 and also have a legacy and see when my children will become adults and then have their own chindren, in sha Allah 🙂

It doesn't matter if they are boys or girls. I'll just be satisfied of what God will give me. Speaking about the names, in Algerian culture, names are pretty important because obviously they will keep it their entire life, so even though it is not required in religion to give only Arab or Muslim names as long as the meaning isn't bad, the name has to have a deep meaning for the family. I think though I'll listen to my culture. My culture is an asset and I don't want it to be a handicap. I have to admit I have a preference for Arab names or what we call "international names" (you know, those names that are given worldwide no matter the country).

I hope one day I'll have children. But destiny belongs to Allah Almighty!

Great Sabri 👍 and great Yue👍

Wowww I did not expect that you would be so super fast and with so much nice things that you explain and show!!! Merci beaucoup and sukran a lottttt @Sabri_KC!!!! 🙏🙏

I think that your answer about question to adapt to a new culture is VERYYY true!!! And my parents have that also not only ago but now still!!! But they try their best and sometimes it is more Chinese and sometimes it is more Dutch. For example my parents really prefer Asian foods or at least hot foods in stead of bread meals in the morning or lunch!! And I dont think that will change. But my dad has maybe the most Christmas decorations from our street inside the house. And neighbours laugh about it in a funny way because they think that is nice. And the music my mom plays is old china pop the most. But my dad listens to classic music too from European people. So it is now like super mix everything!! 😛

And I understand what you said about the university lunch!! I also prefer to bring food from home and you can take that in a warm cup that keeps it still hot enough. It is healthier than bread and like you said also very important: you dont get fat like a panda!!!! 🐼🐼

The places you show from Algeria are super beautiful!!!! 🥰🥰 Which places do you like the most if you go to Algeria on vacation or live there? 😃

I like that you said your culture is an asset and not handicap!! That is nice for the quotes and statements forum!!!! 😛
