The media sometimes tend to portrays whatever is convenient and trending at a particular moment, or depending on their biases. It has been always easy to depict an entire group of people as bad or scary by inflating truly awful acts committed by only a very small proportion of them. Human beings have been doing this since the beginning of time and we will keep doing it because we are not able to look at our own inadequacies. Why bother trying to improve yourself when you can blame one specific group of all the evilness in this world?
It is true that men tend to be, on average, more physically aggressive than women. And yes, as a young woman, you should be aware that there are predatory men out there looking for someone to exploit, but they are a minority. You should also beware of some women. I work in an environment dominated by them, and I can say for certain that they can be just as aggressive as men, but more deceitful. They may go after your reputation simply because you are younger, more intelligent, or because you make them feel insecure about themselves. All of this while smiling at your face.
My take on this topic is not for you to lose faith in human beings. On the contrary, you should trust people, just not all the way trough, at least not at the beginning. Time will tell who is in front of you and what they want. And most of the time you'll realise they end up being decent people and sometimes amazing ones with which you'll bond forever.
Growing up, you will also gain experience, and your instincts will sharpen. It will become easier judging people, especially if you are careful.
About the media I follow the same principle, I believe half of what they say untill I have done my research or untill time prove them right or wrong.
Don't grow up being scared, have fun and faith in humanity just do it consciously.
