Hi, imagine that such a map is placed around a sphere. Just like you would wrap a present, for example.
It doesn't matter whether one object is a ball and the other a square piece of paper.
The other phenomenon you mention is the curvature of the earth. Imagine that there is a tree right next to you. It is exactly 10 meters tall. If you move 1 kilometer away and look at the tree again, it has lost 80 millimeters in height. Another example would be: The flight altitude of an airplane is approximately 10.5 kilometers. This is not enough to actually see the curvature of the earth. You would have to fly about 15 kilometers high.

About two thousand two hundred years ago a man calculated with rudimentary means what the circumference of the Earth could be. Long before this date other people had already hypothesized that the Earth could be spherical. This brilliant mind had noticed that on the day of the summer solstice, the sun did not cast any shadow in a well he concluded that the Sun, the well and the center of the Earth were perfectly aligned. The same day in Alexandria one of his friends measured the angle that the shadow of the sun drew from a vertical stick. After measuring with the steps of a camel the distance between these two points, he deduced a distance of 39500km, a minimal error compared to the 40003km that the satellite systems have measured. If quotas are removed it will become harder to fight spammers and other malicious users. I think the current numbers are fair. At best it could be loosely adjusted over time for long time users like here in the forum.
If you believe the Earth is flat, it would be cool if you could provide a picture its edges. Unless satellites are fake too, in which case GPS is imaginary technology 🤷️. Likewise it shouldn't be possible to only take a couple hours to fly from Eastern Russia to Alaska if they weren't next to each other.

I stated before, to show all the countries, the sizes are heavily distorted. We can see anything if we transform something 3D onto a 2D plane in irregular scales.
