    The Lake House

In attempts not to spoil too much of the film, much of it involves two individuals - Alex and Kate - exchanging letters something that appeals to me greatly and inspired me to give this a go.

As I rewatched it I noticed for the first time an elephant pedestal in the background of a scene that was very similar to a pair my grandmother acquired and brought back from the Philippines, when I was a child I admired them the most of out of all her belongings.

The pedestal seems to be a good preliminary and reminder to the quote from Kate’s favorite book Persuasion by Jane Austen that followed “There could have been no two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison”. Kate describes Persuasion as a book about waiting… two people meet, almost fall in love, but the timing isn’t right, they have to part and then years later they meet again, they get another chance… but they don’t know if too much time has passed, if they waited too long, if it’s too late to make it work. All of which resonates with me.

Some of my other favorite films include Willow, The Never Ending Story, The Princess Bride, A Knight’s Tale, Stardust, The Hobbit, The Last Unicorn, Prince of Egypt, Matilda, What Maisie Knew, Liar Liar, A Goofy Movie, Steel Magnolias, Charlotte’s Web, The Little Prince, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, Anastasia, Lars and the Real Girl, My Best Friend’s Wedding, La La Land, Penelope, Edward Scissorhands, Little Women, The Joy Luck Club, Memoirs of a Geisha, Mulan, Fred Claus, Klaus, A Christmas Carol, Scrooged, Groundhog Day, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, Just Like Heaven, 13 Going on 30, The Wedding Singer, What’s Your Number?, Easy A, Secret Admirer, Runaway Bride, Pride & Prejudice, Mary Poppins, Leo, The Peanut Butter Falcon, This Must Be The Place, Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, The Gorge, The Martian, Project Hail Mary, The Fall Guy, Ghosted, Grosse Pointe Blank.

  • I risultati di cui vado più fiero

I’m not exceptional, talented, skilled, or even brave in any particular way… I’m average or proficient at best. That being said, I suppose the things I’m most proud of are rooted and intertwined with how I conduct myself, care for others, the determination or immense appreciation I have, maybe a bit of resilience and threshold to unpleasantries peppered in there.

It isn’t extraordinary or impressive, but I take pride in my work as a nanny… I recently saw a trend that tickled me, and that is when children are in the midst of a meltdown or tantrum and their parents holler “JESSICA!” and it stops the children in their tracks - that’s my name by the way - it stirs up a feeling that I’m a baby whisperer of sorts… that or it’s a highly effective and amusing way to highjack their neurological pathways and redirect them into a calmer state. There are a few children that I have cared for an extended period of time, several years both on duty and during my free time, from infants to 12 years old… when learning or singing the finger family song in addition to “Daddy finger” “Mommy Finger” “Brother Finger” they added, “Jessica finger, Jessica finger where are you?” and genuinely thought every family unit had a “Jessica” fills my heart with immense delight.
