  IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MY PAST....

  
  On one of my last trips through Europe, which took me through France, Gibraltar, Spain and Portugal, amongst other places, I also found myself lingering for a moment in Valencia. The images on display
  here reflect that moment.

  My attention was caught there, on a coastal road just outside Valencia. It was an area where a striking number of very simple wooden crosses stood along the roadside. I’d arrived there in the afternoon and,
  as usual, had headed to the beaches to collect some sand samples, along with the longitude and latitude coordinates, for my collection. I was so focused on my sand that, although I’d seen the crosses, I hadn’t really given them a second thought.

  As it turned out later that evening, these were crosses dedicated to the women who, on this beautiful street, had paid for their services-to-men with their lives.

  Alexandra, a wonderfully open-minded lady, had taken 'pity-on-me' and let me in on the secret. She shared the dark secrets of her profession with me, as she herself admitted, because I was interested
  not so much in her services and physical attributes, but rather in her story. I met her and some of her friends that evening and the following night. I thanked her in my own way by photographing the human side and vulnerable side -- something that I will never forget and will always be greatful for...
