When I was 14, I spent ten months in Canada as part of a student exchange program. I lived New Brunswick, in the bilingual province, which gave me the chance to improve both my English and French while immersing myself in a completely different culture. It was my first long time away from home, and even at that age, it made a huge impact on how I see the world. More recently, I’ve spent time working as an au pair, three months in Denmark, three in Slovakia, and another month in Estonia. Living with host families, taking care of children, and being part of their everyday routines taught me more than any guidebook ever could. Every experience pushed me to grow, to become more independent, and to appreciate the beauty of cultural differences in day-to-day life.

I found myself back on the kitchen floor for craft sessions, drawing chalk rainbows on the sidewalk, and spending hours swinging at the playground. There’s something beautiful about reconnecting with the things that made you happy as a kid and realizing they still do.
