Trivia suggestions Opmerkingen en suggesties

As a trivia amateur, I would like to suggest some variations to the game, either to be implemented in the current forum game or separately.

In the current format of 5 questions, I would like to have the time taken to complete the challenge as well, and to use that for separating 2 players with the same amount of points.

Expanding on this, it would be interesting (to me) to have something like lifetime or yearly rankings, rankings by % of correct answers (provided a minimum threshold of answers is met), rankings by answer time (for correct answers only of course).

As a separate suggestion, since the chatroom is and has been on the quiet side for some time: I know on other IRC channels or even Discord there are trivia bots that just spew out questions, a few hints and then the correct answer/awards points to the correct answerer, and was wondering if we could have something similar.
I'm not sure of the ideal implementation yet, but it can either be in a separate room or active in the main room when there's only one person and, in order not to discourage chatting between members, it goes away when more people join unless they enter a /command to start it - this sounds quite complicated so perhaps a separate room would be the easiest. Stats and rankings could also be accessed with a /command

Happy to hear more thoughts.

Sorry i posted a lot of messages on the forum so maybe others dont see your forum post anymore so i write a message now to put it high again in the forum! ๐Ÿ™‚ And I think maybe @Etienne knows more about it.

I like the Trivia a lot but sometimes it is very difficult but it is still always fun. When we do the trivia test on school i make the questions with a friend and that is very fun but also VERY chaos sometimes because of the timer!! ๐Ÿ˜›

But i think the Trivia Bot is the smartest member now of PPG!! ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ Sorry that is a joke!! ๐Ÿ˜›

Hi Remus, good to see you around ๐Ÿ™‚. All the suggestions you're sharing actually are/were on the table, the current format being an experiment. Currently only 20-25 people engage with it each day, which is okay but still a small minority of active users. I'd love to spend more energy into it but I also need to avoid over investing in something most users care little about (understandably so, I mean this is a penpal website, not a trivia/gaming platform).

Timing and general stats are definitely things I want to add down the road (many can be generated retroactively, too). I'm hoping showing some basic metrics can increase engagement, especially if advertised somewhere on the dashboard or something for those who never venture into the forum (or the chatroom, which again the vast majority of people don't care about).

Long story short, yes to your suggestions, and/but I need to increase engagement and somehow have as many people as possible include trivia into their daily routine to make this feature a success (making the questions/answers multilingual might also help significantly, some people have complained it's English only and feel left out). Improvements to be added sometime before the end of the year๐Ÿคž๏ธ

It's a real shame that the forum is a world separate from the site, a parallel universe.

I don't know, the fact that its size is manageable is an opportunity for active users to be more familiar with one another. There are large forums out there where so many posts get sent every hour that I feel like you basically lose all sense of belonging, maybe it's just my feeling ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

I have signed up and unsubscribed from the site at least four times. I couldn't find anyone to communicate with. Today I'm just here for the forum. It allows to live a special experience: community pen friendship. But Trivia is too difficult ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

Bonjour @Etienne!! ๐Ÿ™‚ What does it mean what you say that you lose all sense of belonging? I dont understand that part. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ And I think long forums with lot of posts are good because it the forum is very active and live. I know a lot of us try to also have a lot of other members on the forum like Roseee and Esma-Nur and Lorenzo and others. And sometimes that works and sometimes not but that is ok. And a lot of long forums have new topics like new questions or games or challenges so if people want they can also be in that forum very easy. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

And some people said to me with private chatting that they like to read the forums even if they dont write in it. And older members said the forums were in the past not so live so if we dont have forums with a lot of posts it will be again like that i think. So it is good everything is live and lot of things people can chat about on the forum. It is now like the chatroom but offline! ๐Ÿ˜›

Hi @Yue_, by other forums I mean other websites that have many many users. What you call "forum" is typically "topic" ๐Ÿ˜›

Oh ok i use forum always for here because that is easier!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ But the forum here also goes very fast but I like that there are a lot of different topics so maybe everybody has one that they like!! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡
