I just saw the news that is covering in Paris. The world famous Notre Dame Cathedral has been burned down in fire. I know it was constructed in 1163 and was finished in 1345. I always wanted to see it in person one day but I’m not sure if I’ll ever get a chance. It’s a shame. I feel terrible for the people in France. What are your thoughts?
1. It's a terrible disgrace for France and for the whole world. Specially art aficionados.
2. What kind of restoration works turn a 12th-Century cathedral into a flaming ball? Someone's not gonna work in his whole life.
The UK has specialist gothic restoration people, we probably will send them when they finish restoring big Ben to its original plans (the mock ups look so good it's going to mess with tourists lol)
It's not really important. It's a pity but it's only a monument.
People are dying everywhere and anyone cry or act for them.
Burn Notre Dame de Paris and people touched by globalisation cry or think that it is horrible... Find the mistake...

It's not because its just a building its to do with what the building represents and its influence on history.

This might sound harsh but think about this.
People exist for like 70 years approximate and then mostly it's over. The (grand)children will think about them and mostly will be forgotten eventually unless they did something awesome or horrific.
The Notre dame was started to exist in 1163. And is still important to so many people. Sometimes spending money for a life could change less than for an monument that existed for this long.
Don't get me wrong. I do care about human life's but this is a way to see it.
I wonder why people get so touched about any accidents or destruction happen to anything in the western world. However, no one seems to feel or care about the destruction of 800+ year old trees in the name of development and mining to fuel our comfortable life or bombing 1000+ year old historical sites in the middle-east in the name of fighting terror and spreading a wonderful democracy. Is there something wrong with our feelings and perception?
