Has anybody acted in a play before?

I personally haven't acted in a play before, but I've been doing light and sound in my school's theatre for over 6 years now and have quite enjoyed it. Unfortunately, with graduating, that hobby will end too, so I'm quite interested in learning what other people have played in their theatre group over the years.

While I've done many small productions (mainly 2nd graders who wrote their own plays), I've also worked on some bigger productions (never a musical—thanks, COVID).

We have played some very classical ones like Hamlet, but also a few under the theme of "Never Forget" like Furcht und Elend des Dritten Reiches (Fear and Misery of the Third Reich).

This is a really nice forum @Gambo! I have not acted in a play yet but i would like it BUTTT also i dont really want it to happen bc i know that when you go on the stage it would not make me feel comfortable. I do ballet and if i am on a stage i only feel a little bit nervous but not a lot. But with a play i think it is super different bc you also have to act and talk and that would make me feel really different and i dont like a LOTTT of people looking at me when i have to talk and they all listen to you.

What kind of plays do you like? And maybe you can be a member of a play group that goes to theatres. 🙂

I know that feeling, @Yue_. I'm still amazed by how people can remember two hours or more worth of text and then not just forget half of it while on stage. At the same time, the people I've worked with will comfortably sit in a bathtub placed IN the audience and just start singing like it’s the most normal thing in the world—while I get nervous when I have to run up on stage just to bow to our little audiences of usually somewhere between 150 to 250 people.

Unfortunately, my time doing that will soon be over. We've already trained four new people to take over, and we are currently two out of four performances into our last production ever (at least for us). I hope I can find a hobby acting group close to me so maybe I could work with them, because I will really miss working with creative people like that.

The most impressive plays I've watched until now have been Sweeney Todd and Phantom of the Opera. I personally find it amazing how music, singing, light, actors—everybody—just does their job so perfectly without ever cracking up or making a noticeable mistake.

What are some professional or amateur plays you've watched?
