Your experience with therapy

This forum can seem about very personal things, but i wanted to start some forums with more serious topics, not only funny ones. And there is no need to go into details,i’ll just explain my experience. There is no need to tell why you went to therapy if you don’t want to,just tell what you felt and if it helped you.

Personally i went to a psychologist from the first time at 9. It helped me to get over my anxiety and finish the school year.

I went a second time in 2024 cause i went through an extremely dark moment of my life and i am surprised i made it out of those months alive,I really needed help. It helped me a lot, it helped me mainly to process things and give reasons to what happened to me. I stopped after I started to get a bit better.

then i went to a psychiatrist and started to take anti depressants, and started with a therapist again. I did two sessions with this new therapist but i don’t know if it’s helping,we’ll see.

what’s your experience? I think talking to someone that isn’t your friend and that isn’t your family, someone that won’t judge you is the best.

I cant write a lot now but i REALLY wanted to say that you are super brave for telling this and for making this forum @Roseeeee. I really mean that!!!! 🏆🏆🏆

I hope a lot of people who can share also do that the way they want because i think it can really help others too (also if for example you THINK about therapy). Sorry that i cant write more now but your forum must get a lot of support i hope and comments of people who had therapy or can give advice. 🙏🙏

Tysm!!!

I have a therapist that helps me be less shy. It's not working very fast so far, but thanks to him I've said 'hi' to a few of the other people at my fencing lessons, which I wouldn't have done if he didn't give me a challenge to do it. I'm still too scared to say 'goodbye', because at the end of the lessons they form groups to chat with each other and it's just too stressful to approach and have all their eyes on me. Also I don't think I've said a single word to my fencing teachers unless I really had to, I don't know why they're so intimidating to me.

During the meetings with my therapist I'm too shy to stay alone with him so my parents are with me in the room. I also play with my earmuffs the whole time to calm down because I'm stressed, but I guess that too is practice to be less shy? I think it would help if I saw my therapist more often so I can warm up to him, but at the same time I don't want to see him more often.

So basically my experience isn't so nice, but it's probably my fault, because I don't see the point of being less shy and I don't want to make too big of an effort...

It is nice that you write about it @Miss_Penpal and i hope that you feel more comfortable and less shy maybe later if you have therapy longer. I KNOWW how it is if you are shy in groups. I know how that feels. BUTTT in my case i can be in a group. That is not a problem. But speaking is a problem if they all look at me and you dont know if they will judge you later or gossip or dislike you. 🙄🙄

I have not been in therapy but i have been suggested it. @Roseeeee already knows about it because we talked about it before and it is NOTTT for shyness in my case or weight problems but more about one time a thing that happened and ALSO about how you deal with it if things happen again. And i dont know yet if i really need therapy because you also have to tell a lot of personal things. If i will do it i will tell later if it helps or not.
