I think it helps to convey your message better and it is very contagious.. when I lived with Italians after a week or so, I started using hand gestures as well hahaha

Penso che la gestualità faccia parte del nostro modo di essere italiani. Dal nostro paese è passata praticamente ogni popolazione europea e non. La nostra lingua ne è la testimonianza più evidente, ma anche la gestualità indica sempre il tentativo di farsi capire dalle persone con cui ci rapportiamo.

A me non piacciono le persone che esagerano con la gestualità

That's an exact cultural legacy of the Romans. They also used the art of chironomia in everyday communication and in oratory. It should be taken as the chiefest instrument of eloquence. In my opinion, particularly Southern Italians use well performed chironomia. That's absolutely the art of manual rhetoric.
