Heyy, so I searched for studytips on the forum but I couldn't find any topics concerning school. Please tell me if it's some kind of forbidden topic or something but atm I'm stressing about my tests tomorrow and seeing my future slowly crumble so I thought I'd search for unusual tips for studying!

So in short, how do you study? What are some tips you have for subjects like chemistry, physics, history (tips specific to a subject)?

hiii i can write it in Dutch but bc maybe others also like to know it: what i do and i think is the MOST important is that you make hw for more than 1 day in advance bc if you do that you can be MUCH more chill abt it in the class and you actually understand it. Bc in my class a lot dont prepare it AT ALL and they just look around and NOT paying attention. And also if something happens and you get behind with hw than it is a problem bc it is normally a LOTTTT and you get super stressed to read everything.

And for normal subjects like history i think it is easiest to make summary that you WRITE so not just like with markers that you highlight stuff. Bc if you write it yourself it stays in your mind a LOTTT easier. And with chem and phys it is easy to have some things you REALLY must remember that you write on post it notes and you can see it really often even if it gets super annoying. And in that cases you REALLY must understand it or it gets more difficult the more far you get. So for example one of my friends thought it was ok just to get a 6 bc it was not the subject she liked at all. And 6 is enough. BUTTTT she only learned that she thought was just enough but she didnt understand topics that came AFTER that. So she got more and more behind so that is NOTTT good enough if you dont want to be super stressed.

@Yue_ thank youu, I had never heard of the post-it one so I'll definitely try that. I do try to get all my homework for the week done during the weekends so that part's good.

Ik zit nu in 5VWO dus ik moet hierna nog een jaar..

Writing down on paper everything you learn can help you focus on the subject. Sometimes writing everything more than once can help. Repetition with writing down your thought works similar to muscle memory when taking part in physical activity.

Short breaks from studying help a lot especially if you stop and exercise briefly. Some quick pushups can help a lot and you also get exercise while you study.

Try to have fun and enjoy studying. It is difficult to learn anything if you cannot enjoy it.

Read stuff during the nigth. That suprisingly helps a lot. And make little cheat sheets. Dont use them but while you are making them you learn something at the same time. And also they are easier to carry around than heavy books so you can study anywhere you want with them.

Well I'm using a method for myself when I study at the last days. So, if u gonna revise it by past papers, just don't try to write answers cuz it will be just a waste of time by thinking forr so long for the answers and when u doing these, you will get stressed.

When you take out your past papers, take out their answers as well.when you doing a past paper question and when you get stuck in a place, get your answers and try to memorize the answer for it.When you finish the memorizing the answer, close the answers and try to write the answer again.

When I'm doing this method, I usually using the blue pen for the answers that I know and When I'm trying to write the answer after I memorizing something that I didn't know before, I'm using the red pen so that the answer will memorize.

I hope this will be help you and I wish you a good luck.❤️

First of all, you should lighten the stress load by taking the fact for granted: "Schooling and education aren't very same terms at all." Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. You are being taught by people who have been able to accommodate themselves to a regime of thought laid down by their predecessors. It is a self-perpetuating system. They simply teach you "what to think" fitting into the narrow and particular needs of this particular society. Listen and watch lessons carefully, they give you hints on probable questions. All teachers have some questioning routine and they rarely break it out. Don't let them imprison you into the exhaustive amount of papers.

I like what you said @diogenes_cask but it is also difficult. So i never really got like teachers who complain abt me but one time i had a problem last school year with our economy teacher. And i still dont understand what i did wrong. So it is abt the balance what you have and things that you are owing. And the difference is like what it is worth. So it is a balance. BUTTTT i asked why is it a balance bc it is almost never the same and if you dont put in the value of the difference but just let it be the difference you can see easier if it has more value ORRR that you owe smt. And he said that is just the rule. And i asked but why bc it is the only thing that is not real but just to make it a balance and that time he was angry and said i have to keep shut. And that is the ONLYYY time that happened but i just dont understand why they do that and just asked abt it. And he got angry.

So that way it is really difficult to ask stuff if you dont understand why they do things or if you think maybe it is wrong or they will maybe give lower grade or remember it and i dont want that.

1) take good care of yourself: improve sleep quality, healthy food, sports, fresh air, hobbies...

2) breaks, and study for short intervals with best concentration (20-45 minutes)

3) set realistic goals, study regularely, every day a little bit, but continuously, Sunday is your leisure day, no work! 🙂

4) Ask St. Giuseppe di Copertino, patron of the students, he is great! 🙂

5) learn with all senses, visually (draw wallpapers, write with different colours, use pictures), connected with movement (walking), sing it, make verses, use a rhythmic pattern etc.

6) most important that you really understand what you learn.

7) in the tests, start with the easiest things; write down even ideas if you are not sure - better than leaving out questions completely.

All the best for you, God bless.

Thank you all! I'll try your tips for the upcoming test week!

@MariaRosary what do you mean by asking st. Giuseppe di copertino?

@Yue_ I honestly think that teacher is just a bad teacher who just assumed things are as they are during his school time. Do you have any other economy teachers who can explain why? I don't have economy myself so I can't help unfortunately...

@diogenes_cask You are right, however school for me isn't about aquiring knowledge really, I don't believe the school system as it is has anything to do with knowledge. I'm merely in school because it's mandatory and I need that diploma to study marine sciences or human neurology, however most of what I learn (for example maths) is completely useless in my future....

@DRGR that sounds like a great idea, thank you!

@Torakka believe it or not, but I always hear that studying when it's night is more productive, problem is that I also need sleep... I'll try the cheatsheet as well!

@Kevin_the_cleaner I'll try and remind myself to exercise during my breaks!

Prayer to Saint Giuseppe di Copertino. He is a Catholic saint and patron of the students. 🙂
