Hello everybody! 💁‍♀️

We had a nice chat in the Dutch forum about the vrijmarkten during King's Day in The Netherlands. I dont know the English word for it but you basically sell old things like clothes, toys, books or anything you want. Some also sell food like cookies or springrolls or have small games. And everything is super cheap so you can for example buy a book for 50 cents or 1 Euro. And this way you can buy stuff without spending a lot of money and others can clean up stuff in their house.

It looks like this:

Can i ask these questions:

➡️ Do you have something like that in your country?

➡️ Do you often buy stuff second hand (like on Vinted) and what kind of things do you buy?

➡️ What kind of things do you only want to buy new and not second hand?

➡️ Did you ever sell or buy at a market like above?

I think it is nice to have these markets bc you can make somebody happy with your old toys and clothes instead of just throwing it away. And you can clean up your house in this way too!!

I am curious what others think about it!!! Thank you very much if you want to reply below!! 🙏🙏

Do you have something like that in your country? Yes and the name is rommelmarkt

➡️ Do you often buy stuff second hand (like on Vinted) and what kind of things do you buy? Clothes for kids and visbokaal

➡️ What kind of things do you only want to buy new and not second hand? Bike and shoes

➡️ Did you ever sell or buy at a market like above? No but my kids wanne do it but i dont wanne sit there i will be to shine

➡️ Do you have something like that in your country?

No, it's illegal to sell your stuff on the street here except on one day of the year. The rest of the time you either sell your stuff online or give it away to second hand stores that will sell it and keep all the profit (so it's like a donation but to the shop instead of to people who will use what you give).

➡️ Do you often buy stuff second hand (like on Vinted) and what kind of things do you buy?

I guess so. I don't often buy things though, and when I do it's almost exclusively clothes. The best thing I ever got second hand was a black velvet cape from a shop online. It's not very warm but it's perfect for late spring and early autumn, I love it so much.

➡️ What kind of things do you only want to buy new and not second hand?

Food haha

Other than that I actually prefer second hand things, nowadays fashion is sooo ugly, from shoes to shirts. Some shops still make pretty clothes, but they're difficult to find and rather expensive.

➡️ Did you ever sell or buy at a market like above?

I tried to sell clothes on Poshmark but the only people who messaged me were scammers who said they had already paid for the item and were waiting for it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and checked my Junk Emails and every other category where the notification could have been lost, but there were always nothing.

And I've never been to a market like above, but I've been to second hand stores multiple times.

Thank you very much @Fleurke and @Miss_Penpal for answering!! Now i had to laugh so much bc i had to google what you meant with visbokaal @Fleurke!!! So we BOTH speak Dutch but we say viskom. And i saw on google and i thought like...ok that was not the smartest thing for the whole weekend of me!!! 🙄🙄😬😬

For me the answers are:

➡️ Do you have something like that in your country?

Exactly like @Miss_Penpal said for Canada it is normally NOT allowed too in my country. BUTTT on King's Day it is allowed but only in places where it is ok like in parks and in certain streets or shopping areas. And several times a year in most cities you have like a spot where there are similar second hand markets but only in that place it is allowed and you need to pay to sell things. But at King's Day it is free and everybody is nice and kind to each other. So i like that much better. And of course we have second hand shops and online we can sell with Vinted or MUCHHHH bigger Marktplaats. That is like Vinted but for anything like clothes, toys, books, furnature, bikes, cars, appartments that you can rent or almost anything else.

➡️ Do you often buy stuff second hand (like on Vinted) and what kind of things do you buy?

Yes but most on Marktplaats. And you can select like on distance if you want to search for smt. So you dont have to be transport costs but you can just bike there and collect it and look at it first.

➡️ What kind of things do you only want to buy new and not second hand?

I thought it is interesting that @Miss_Penpal said food bc that is one thing that we DO buy. But let me explain. So for Asian food there are a LOTTTT of homecooks. So for example we know somebody who is expert in making mooncakes so we can get it there or at least 10 people who make specific Asian dishes at home and you can order it and get it. And if it is not far from where we live it is a good and healthy way and not very expensive. 🙂

But normally i buy clothes both in shops like H&M or with Marktplaats. But certain clothes items i prefer not second hand and the same with shoes. When we were young we were also not allowed to get plushies second hand. But other toys were not a problem at all. Now I sell stuff like older DIY craft boxes that is more suitable for small children and they like it so i sell it to them on King's Day for 50 cent or 1 Euro or similar.

➡️ Did you ever sell or buy at a market like above?

Yes selling several times but mostly with my aunt as my dad thinks it is embarrassing. And my mom would buy more than sell so that is not a good idea.

@Yue_ hhhh and i dont know the name in englisch 😂😂😂😂
