  • Cities and countries I have visited

I have travelled to Perth, Australia and Oxford as part of my studies as well as for fun. Furthermore I have visited many cities in Europe, e.g. Paris, Porto, Lisboa, Barcelona, Prague, London, Edinborough, Brussels, Ulm, Hamburg.
Love to do short visits to breathe in the culture, do some sightseeing. Unfortunately I do not have time on my hands for longer trips... Maybe in the future!

  • Improving the school system

One of my favorite quotes is from Benjamin Franklin:
Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, involve me and I will learn.

In my opinion, the best way to teach and learn is in an active way. Whether that is by being part of the organization or the way teachers present their lessons does not matter.
By travelling abroad you get to learn about different cultures and organisations, different styles of education. By taking these experiences back to your home country, you can implement the good things to improve your own system.

  • My interests in other cultures

I find it interesting how every culture has its own standards of interaction. In my job as a doctor I encounter many different cultures, which require different methods of communication. It is also important to understand how they interact.
For example, in some cultures it is shameful to not understand what someone says: thus, they just nod and do not dare to ask questions.
In other cultures, it is rude to just ask questions, just look it up yourself.

It is interesting to see how communication works between the different cultures, if you have time to observe and learn, it will definitely improve your skills.

  • A personal challenge

A challenge I set for myself is to learn Dutch Sign language. It is pretty difficult, since it is so different from spoken language. Also, it is hard to practice, since it doesn't work to have a pen pall... But I am managing!

  • Favourite books/authors/films

I love to read and do not have a specific preference for a genre.
I do love to read in other languages: English, German, Norsk. It is a good way to learn languages and keeps the reading interesting.

Some of my favorite books the are Harry Potter series (nostalgia) and books from Tess Gerritsen; she writes amazing thrillers with surgical precision, which I can really appreciate.

  • Living abroad for one year

I would love to work abroad for a year! Unfortunately, with my profession that is quite difficult, since you have to have specific diploma's / certificates / experience.
But if I could, I'd love to go to Canada, Australia, the UK or Scandinavia.

  • I always enjoy talking about...

Basically whatever! I really want to improve my language skills, and I have a lot of interests. Sports, books, movies, travelling, health stuff; you name it.
And if you just want to randomly write to tell about your day, I am happy to listen as well 🙂

  • 10 years from now

In 10 years, I hope to be a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon! Got a lot of thresholds to pass before I am there, a lot of work to do. But I won't give up on my dream!
