  • Life regrets

    I should have travelled MUCH, MUCH more while I was younger. My advice to a younger self would be to get a skill you can do anywhere, then bugger off and do it everywhere; you'll see the world while keeping yourself fed, clothed & sheltered.

  • Something uncommon about me

    I bake the best Victoria Sponge cake that I have ever had, so much so that I once beat the head of the local Women's Institute in a baking contest, much to her indignation.

  • I'm an expert at...

    Boringly I am an expert in the field of IT, both in cloud-based architectures and the software solutions which run upon them. This is because it's my day job, and I must do something to pay the bills. I am, in fact, what used to be derogatively called a "geek", which means both that I am capable of using polysyllabic words in a sentence and that I can actually bear my own company while fixing some other fool's problem.

    I have mainly only travelled for work, but I have been to Italy, Denmark and Portugal.
    Although I hold a Yachtmaster sailing qualification I have never sailed abroad due to work constraints.

    I want to learn three languages so that I can get a better understanding of my world.

    I’m a certified Yachtmaster and therefore a very keen sailor,

    I brew some rather excellent all grain beers and porters

    I can pretty much make a computer do anything is ask of it.

    I recently bought my first sports car, no it’s not part of a mid-life crisis

  • Childhood pleasures

    I’m old enough to be of a generation where we were allowed to play outdoors and that freedom was my greatest pleasure. Being able to explore the countryside with a gang of pals, build tree houses and rope swings. Those days were heavenly.

    Before calling IT support, check:

    Is it switched on?
    Is it really switched on, at the all too?
    Should it have paper in it?
    Has it got paper in it?
    Is the screen on (see above)

    Have you tried turning off, and back on again?

    Get better school governors and make sure the money raise is spent wisely
